The forum rules prohibit giving medical advice (for legal reasons). A few members have spoken a bit about Antabuse, and I understand that it's helped a lot of people. You're right, in broad terms gong cold turkey can be dangerous; you will always be advised to consult with a doctor. That said, when I quit I was desperate enough to be free of booze that I no longer cared if I died, so long as I was sober. Can't say I recommend it but I got through it okay.

You can Google Antabuse...it's not for helping withdrawal, it's more a deterrent from further drinking once you're through the detox and initial stages.
The UK does things quite differently than the US where I live. In-patient treatment might be your only option if you are looking for drugs to ease withdrawal, I'm not sure. Maybe start a thread asking for UK input. Are you in the alcohol services system? (I'm not sure what it's called...)
In the US the options are much more varied and some doctors here would prescribe a short course of at-home medication if they felt the patient might be able to do it at home, or there are in-patient detoxes and/or the hospital.

so because i have had little to no interaction with anyone...i feel really anxious atm..... so i would prefer a "i do it at home type veriety"
Hi, I'm in UK....Best thing is to go register with your nearest drug & alcohol support team....I went to GP recently and a lot are transferring directly to specific services now I think.....probably due to abuse of benzodiazepines!? Who knows. You can reduce down with their advice or perhaps do a detox with them.

We understand, there's a lot of lonely drinking and isolation. Alcohol (and cocaine) will do that - it is a very self-involved pursuit. I think a lot of us (me included) find ourselves feeling very alone at the end.
Good place to jump off!
Have you considered a meetings-based approach? Especially at AA you find lots of info, help, and people. It helped me tremendously in those early days.
I quit with a three day taper. Years of daily drinking, and I tapered off in three days. Have you tried that? Some people in the UK are told to taper but I know some people say they can't make that work. If you are determined to quit anything will work.
Pick something and just do it.

Well, to be fair, U4S - I had all those symptoms too. I've never medically detoxed so I can't speak to that but those early days of being without our drug(s) are just miserable and uncomfortable if it's done at home. No two ways around that.
I'm so glad to have that as a memory though. It keeps me from ever picking up again.
