4 years 4 months sober
4 years 4 months sober
Hey guys,
I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was. I've not posted for some time now and I'm still going strong despite some real bad stuff going down in my life.
Sober sober life is the best. And the bad things that have happened aside ive got to say I'm living my best life. I lost my mum earlier this year and left my wife 2 years ago. On the flip side I've met a lovely lady who also doesn't drink and we are now engaged to be married. I've lost loads of weight and I now exercise every day. I'm happy guys when I never thought it would be possible.
I dont want this to sound like a post where I'm showing off because I swear I'm not. I really want to get the message across that there really is life after the booze.
Keep going guys it's worth it,
Much love,
Bruno/Dean ❤

Big congrats on 4 yrs and 4 months sober! I would say the same - despite some setbacks and the loss of my mom 7 yrs ago, I am doing well, feel pretty good most of the time, and am a much happier person than I used to be. And all because I'm sober.
That's awesome @Bruno1979! I'm sorry about your mom but glad that you've turned your life around.

Congratulations! I agree you should feel more than entitled to boast about this massive achievement. We should be able to remove the shame of what addiction means during and after. We should be able to be more open about the pain it is; and also about the possibility of recovering from it. Well done and thank you for inspiring others

Bruno - thank you for posting. I don't know you well but went back and read a bunch of your posts. Your story is an exemplary one and another wonderful success story from SR. It appears you may have gone through a divorce during your path to sobriety? I only ask I did as well and have come out on the other side sober (3 years 4 months + sober here). Proof that even when the vicissitudes of life are unavoidable, we can make changes to save ourselves.
Thank you and congrats again.

Many thanks for the kind and lovely replies guys. I'm on my mobile phone so it wont allow me to like peoples comments for some reason (if we can still like comments).
This forum played a massive part in my life when I was at rock bottom. Of course we dont need a rock bottom to stop drinking, many people don't have rock bottoms and still pull themselves clear of addiction. So theres no point in sitting around waiting for things to get worse. Right now is the best time to start a sober journey.
Much love my SR friends,
Bruno

Wow, Bruno! You’ve packed a lot in! A couple of nasty events in there (condolences, lost my parents in the last two years), but to meet someone new and a non drinker at that really is landing on your feet.
I totally get it to mention the weight loss and other good stuff. It’s not showing off at all. I’m 32 months sober and things just keep on improving. For example, I’m a woeful swimmer, but I’ve persevered, and today even the lifeguard said I was improving loads. Like your good stuff, it wouldn’t have happened if we’d continued drinking. Well done on 4+4. I’ll be there in 20 months 😀👍
