My two favorite self help books have nothing to do with addiction or recovery but are very useful guides to living a happy peaceful contented life. The first book is The Daily Stoic, by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. The other one is Thich Nhat Hanh's book Being Peace. It's a view of the Buddhist philosophy and is very good for soothing my mind in troubling times. These are two books that help make sense of ordinary life and the problems that crop up.
I recently read Alcohol Explained, by William Porter. Very helpful, wish I had read it sooner.
I also appreciate the writings of Thich Nhat Hanh, especially his book Silence - the Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise.
