Weekend Gathering

I had a birthday gathering for one of my children this weekend. In general I have decided in terms of my home to keep it alcohol free on a day to day basis which is easy because I no longer drink and my husband never has. I’ve never told anyone they can or cannot bring alcohol to my house. Anyways, for the first time since I got sober a family member brought wine. A couple people had a glass. I did not. They insisted on leaving the rest of the bottle even though I told them I wouldn’t drink it. Well as soon as they left the wine went right down the drain (it’s my drink of choice) and the glasses got washed back up and put back to the back of the cupboard.

Not sure how I will proceed about drinking in my home going forward but I gotta tell ya it actually felt GOOD dumping that wine out

Thought Id share!

Love DD

Happy Birthday to your child. I'm glad you got through that, DD and that you poured out the remaining wine. I like to think of my house as a safe place for me and keeping it alcohol-free does that. I don't even have a cork-screw or any wine glasses anymore. Ultimately, you have to do what feels right for you as you decide how to deal with future situations like this.

If you put aside your issues with alcohol your behaviour is perfectly normal. Most people don't drink regularly and no-one would bother keeping a half bottle of wine that someone brought to a get together unless they planned to drink it which neither you or your husband do! So you are normal now just like that You did great, honestly.

Might be a good idea to let future gatherings know that you don't keep alcohol in your home.

Least I’m not quite there yet but I honestly think most people are slowly figuring it out on there own
