My Dad Drinks And Smokes Pot

When he drinks, he behaves normally and you can't even tell he's been drinking. I've seen him messed up from alcohol alone maybe once or twice in my life.
But when he adds pot on top of it, he starts stumbling around, slurring his words and looks completely messed up.
I have no desire to ever drink again (or do other drugs), so it's not triggering to me as far as my recovery goes or anything.
But it's really irritating seeing him stumble about.

I definitely notice when people are drunk far more than I did when I was drinking. And yes, it's quite annoying. Makes me cringe to think of all the people who were around me when I was drunk all those years and how annoying I must have been.

When I see someone obviously under the influence, I just feel sorry for them. Such a narrow and unfulfilling life. Been there, done with that!

Most times I can tell if a person has been drinking (or high) over the phone. Sure does make you wonder about your own self.

Yeah, not the most attractive of spectacles. When I see someone inebriated like that it just strengthens my resolve all the more to never go back there again. I have a long time buddy who lives across the country from me and he's still drinking even though he knows he has a problem. When he calls me I can hear him get gradually drunker as the conversation goes on. It goes like: Sober, excited, overly opinionated, trouble staying on point, slurring/ irrationality, emotional....so glad I'm drinking anymore.

I was never into pot and am exactly the same as your Dad in that most times you can't tell i've been drinking but give me some pot and i turn into a complete mess in no time and would definitely be stumbling around. It's pretty normal but i can see how it would be annoying to live with on a daily basis.

I'm not saying this is the fix he should probably quit everything, but any seasoned pot smoker should know the rule: Smoke 1st then drink not drink then smoke...

A far better rule is Don't Do Either.

I'n sorry for your situation TWTOM.
Any chance of you moving out in the near future?

I will move out in about 5 years when I've saved up enough money that I don't necessarily have to work full time to pay bills and such.
It's extremely financially efficient for me to live here right now.

His alcohol and pot use does not trigger me to want to drink or use other drugs.
I have no desire to do that now or ever.
