Free2bme’s Moving Forward Thread 3, Dinosaur National Park, Utah, US
Hello all, last month I had the opportunity to travel across the west, and one of the places I visited was Dinosaur National Park.

This was the view from passenger side of car looking north at the landscape. So beautiful to me, all the layers and wonder of ancient times.

As we got closer, I see this interesting jagged rock area in the distance. It turns out this lighter rock is the area where many large dinosaur bones were discovered in 1906 🤓 and was turned into the National Park some 30 years later.
Note. This is VERY rural. Amazes me the explorers fortitude to discover impressive things.

Rare skull bone at the exhibit. Rare because many bones in the skull are fragile or small, thus difficult to preserve, and difficult to excavate.
Pretty scary looking, right?

Photo of the actual hillside where bones were only partially excavated to help preserve them. Check out the spine, and if you can enlarge, you can see other bits and pieces of fossil bones.

A really interesting part of the world - thank you for the photos, now I'm researching some more about the place.
edit to add: I wonder what calamity befell those beasties that they ended up almost in a heap like that.

And lastly, some more fun ‘Americana’ on a street corner outside a Basque restaurant in a small town in Nevada. The restaurant/hôtel was built in 1903 and still functions as both today. I’m pretty sure the boot decoration is much newer😉

Caramel, the area was a river, they believe had a great flood and drown many dinosaurs. The larger ones piled together, and eventually as the river slowed, silt and sludge covered them over many eons. This was why mostly large dinosaur bones were found .
This occurred over millions of years. Then, the layers were pushed up vertically by tectonic plate movement, and then erosion uncovered part of the bones. I’m guessing the explorer was looking for gold ore veins, but saw the bones sticking out and started a different discovery path.
