I live in Australia The Hook so I faced much the same thing...it's ok to make your life easy for a while and avoid those situations if you want to?

Hiya Weekenders

Sunday mornings waking up without a hangover, I never tire of it.

Primativo, sorry for the loss of your cousin. Covid has a lot to answer for.

TheHook, well done for not drinking. I couldn’t go out where alcohol was served when newly sober. I avoided any temptations. It took me a good while to accept it around me without craving it. It does get easier though.

It’s a dull start with the weather this morning. With the sun we’ve had just lately everything is blooming and growing well, especially the grass and weeds. Though I must admit some of the weeds have beautiful flowers and I’ve left them.

Bim, did you get your visit to the zoo yet, and see the new young gorilla. They’ll be pleased to see you I’m sure.

We’re going out for lunch today at Caistor Lakes Restaurant and taking mil and her friend. It’s a nice place with holiday chalets and fishing ponds too. Great place for a quiet holiday. The food’s good too.

Have a good day, take care xxxx

Captain I’m so sorry to hear about your Mum. Sending you and your family lots of love ❤️
Primative, sorry to hear about your cousin too ❤️ Covid is nasty

I’m safely home and sober after a lovely peaceful weekend camping
I saw a possum and several wallabies, a couple of roos and plenty of birds, bilut alas no photos. They wouldn’t sit still for a photo …

I've been hanging in there, while this week was bad in terms of anxiety and stress.
however, my neighbour has not been. She has been on at least a 4 day bender, ordering stuff to her house, smoking and drinking, talking on her phone on speaker in the back yard, and nothing else.
I feel bad for her, but it's really none of my business I guess.

Hi Weekenders,

Firstly I'm very sorry Captain for your loss. It is a terrible disease.

I'm dining out this lunch time in a pub (yes, Covid regs now permit it and I'm fully vaccinated) and the others will be drinking. Today is Day 888 for me. It's a simple test and there's no chance of me actually drinking but it may well stir some uncomfortable thoughts and memories. I've spent a little time reading through my recovery materials as a bit of self-affirmation but we'll see.

Best wishes to all, Forwards.

Good Morning Weekenders,

Primativo - so sorry for your loss.

Yes, there is nothing like waking up sober on a Sunday morning, clear headed and full of energy.

Today is Day 7 for me!!!! :-)

Went to the birthday party yesterday afternoon. There was plenty of booze - no matter what kind you prefer, it was there. But there was also a cooler full of water, which is what I drank. It sure was interesting to watch everyone get half lit. One lady latched on to me and just would.not.stop.talking. About anything and everything. It was so annoying. I just had to walk away most of the time, but she always found me. I do know that many times over, I was that same annoying lady and wondering how many people tried to get away from me. Probably a lot. But no more!

It's another hot day here in the Mid Atlantic of the US and a heat advisory has been issued for this afternoon and tomorrow. Needless to say, I told my SO that we are cancelling golf for this afternoon.

Everyone have a great day. Oh - I decided that I am going to change my User Name, just have to decide on one (or two). Thanks for everyone's input.

LHW

Thank you everyone for your comments.

Wow Saoutchik we were practically next door to each other. I was in Monmouth Kitchen, great food, highly recommend it.

Willow, pleased you had a good camping weekend. Fancy the wildlife not posing for a picture.

Forwards enjoy your lunch, I’ve just returned from eating out. It’s lovely after being cooped up for many months. Congratulations on 888 days. Good work.

LHW, I used to be that person too (she says cringing) thanks goodness I don’t drink anymore, I must’ve been a pain. Congratulations on day 7

Evening Weekenders. Thank you yet again for all the sympathy and support. I am relieved that I am able to go through this present and sober.

I love reading about the restaurants that some of you are visiting and can never resist going onto the Internet to view the Websites and menus. Mags, Caistor Lakes looks really quaint. I hope you and your family had a nice Sunday lunch. LHW, I look forward to seeing your new username and Monmouth Kitchen also looks like an interesting place. Hard to imagine that one could find Peruvian inspired meals in London.

Willow, you should be really proud of yourself for making it through another sober camping trip.

Captain and Primative, sending love and prayers.
Glad the headache I woke with isn't from imbibing! The weather is changing again and it seems the barometric pressure can trigger headaches in some people. We have so many micro climates in the Bay Area, it's always changing.
Glad we are getting a little cooling trend coming up. Anything cooler than 100 is welcome!
Hopefully having lunch with my mom and maybe running an errand or two.
Have a wonderful Sunday and love and peace to all.

Well done on staying sober Weekenders, it does get easier.

Good to see you Captain.

I hope the headache is not an all day affair Aly.

We were within a hundred yards/metres or so by the look of it Primativo, we were in Seven Dials market. I Googled the Monmouth Kitchen too, it looks very enticing. It is worth remembering as I have not eaten Peruvian food.

Even after 6 plus years I still have to be on my guard when socialising. One positive development in that respect is that there are fewer of the old school pubs that are just focused on drink and drinking and far more places that offer eating AND drink. It seems more civilised to me although I would not have thought so once upon a time.

most of the pubs close to where I live are still the old fashioned type of pub with only a couple selling food. As a result I'm just avoiding them. I did go in a pub a few weeks ago, with a bunch of non-drinkers, so it was easy to have a meal and not have any temptation to drink.

In the county I live (could be the whole state, dunno) any "pub" that sells alcoholic drinks has to have dollar sales that are at least equal amounts in food. I know there are some bars around here that I wouldn't eat anything they made. Not sure how strict the Liquor Control Board is on that - but a lot of bars have excellent food. It seems to be a good rule/law.

It does seem like most restaurants now have a bar section with big screen TVs. There are also the chain sports bar places that move a lot of wing and pizza type foods.

It’s so good that you’re present and sober for your Dad and family Captain ❤️
I was sober when my Mum passed, and I’m very grateful for that ❤️

There are still pubs around here that are there just to drink at. They sell packets of potato chips (crisps for non-Aussies) and peanuts. Occasionally they will sell microwaved mini pizzas or pies.
Needless to say, I don’t go near them….

I’m trying to stay away from socialising at the moment as mostly the people I know drink a lot. I have a work dinner coming up in a couple of weeks that I will be the only non drinking person, so I’m going to volunteer as designated driver…. Also a birthday party a couple of weeks after that. Same thing , designated driver. If I plan in advance, I feel more secure about remaining sober.

Happy Monday weekenders

Thank you, Sao! It seems to be leaving as the day goes on.
Had a nice lunch with mom. She was quite decent today, thankfully.

Aly, good that you had a nice lunch with your mom.

I find myself getting annoyed with people drinking a lot and acting out of character, but feel like I should be tolerant because they put up with my drunkenness for all those years.

Hi Weekenders,

I’m enjoying the posts again this weekend—so comforting after my near-disaster last weekend too. Just that it could come back like that. I know it can because I’ve had multiple years in the past and gone back out. Even so, it’s a surprising, frightening feeling. I had forgotten what it felt like. One day you’re steady, relaxed, confident...then this unraveling begins. Perfect storm of loneliness, stress, ‘everything is open and everyone is celebrating, shouldn’t I?’, lack of sleep, the usual suspects plus this not-so-usual pandemic.

And I also had these angry thoughts like ‘do I really need to be in a recovery group for the rest of my life?’ Now let me ask this: if being in a recovery group keeps me steady and successful, reasonably content and quick to laugh or show a bit of empathy like it does, then why not?

Thank you for letting me unpack some of this. I’m getting back to spending more time on the boards and in other recovery places, am getting sleep and relaxing more. It’s worth every minute I spend on it. And I like it here. People talking about the exact things rolling around in my head...as well as some things like Peruvian food that perhaps should be! 😘

Captain, I am sorry about your mother. It’s so painful to lose them.

A great day to all. Early work tomorrow so I’ll tuck in soon

love

Vo

Checking in on a sober Sunday night. Made it through another weekend. Definitely had my moments, this morning at breakfast I was like a dog following a treat with my eyes as the mimosa’s passed me lol....a break from restaurants is definitely in order and definitely happening. Funny how I complained yesterday yet still went out to breakfast.. Onward I go.
