Escaping the Crapulousness - Weekenders 14 - 17 May 2021
Happy Birthday MidnightBlue 🎂🎁🎉
True story - when I signed up to SoberRecovery in 2017 I tried to sign up with the user name MidnightBlue but obviously couldn't as it was taken!
Captain - tomorrow is also Cholcolate Chip Day, International Astronomy Day and, er, Nylon Stockings Day... I'll pass on the stockings (and whiskey ones) but might celebrate both Cholcolate Chip Day and International Astronomy Day by eating some chocolate chip cookies while star gazing. Today is Shades Day 😎 and Chicken Dance Day. The childrens song 'Der Ententanz' inspired the Chicken Dance Day. The literal translation of Der Ententanz is The Duck Dance but it is known by a variety of titles including The Chicken Dance, Dance Little Bird and The Birdie Dance / Song, the latter of which which some of us in the UK may recall in horror when, 40 years ago in 1981, the song infested the UK music charts. I'll certainly not be doing any chicken (or birdie) dancing today...

Bim - I miss you alll too!
Robbie - Wow! What a story ! When I was signing up at SR the user name almost came on its own - it was midnight - transition From October 13 to October 14. And I felt extremely blue.
Shades day? Interesting.
Astronomy day? Definitely celebrating! I am fascinated by space.

I am driven to wax poetic on the fine Theme from Mags this Week:
Roses are red
And, Booze is a trap
So, lose ulousness
Along with the krap
Burma Shave
Yesterday, this veritable Ancient celebrated his 8th Birthday Sober. Born on Friday the 13th, appropriately enough. The Day was wonderfully low-key. As I like 'em in my advanced state of Pension-hood. We took King Pup, seen below, to a different Dog Park. Had a safe and tasty Lunch outside in the shade at a rehabbed Gas Station that's now a Burger Joint. Skipped Dinner to leave caloric room for a slab of this bitchen Chocolate Cake that MesaMate whipped up.
Life is good. Glad I stuck around to enjoy it...

Friday evening, woot!
I mentioned for some reason it a few weeks ago but had completely forgotten about it. I think it is something the world could get along with just fine without.
A long time ago I worked for a company where a fierce lady used to come round with a trolley laden with sandwiches, biscuits and soup all at subsidised prices (these things no longer happen) She was known as the Soup Dragon, a Clangers Character.
Many happy returns to you MidnightBlue and MesaMan. Happy soberversary as well Midnight.
edit I too remember the Birdie Song. I wish I didn't.

Good Morning Weekenders
PJ, I do hope they can sort your pain management out soon. Must be so wearying on you. Take care
Hi Manta how’s work going. Are you still working from home.
My mind is playing the chicken song as I’m writing this post and I’m trying my best to ignore it. It was a very catchy terpsichorean era
I never watched the Clangers, so I’ve just watched some on YouTube. A old work colleague said when he was a kid it scared him.
I watched Magic Roundabout, Bill and Ben, and the cute Andy Pandy and Loubylou. Of course Tom &Jerry was always a hit too (so to speak).

Mesa Man - that’s a mighty handsome dog in the pic.
That Birdie Song, OMG! Unless I’ve missed something, I see no one has been brave enough to embed a video yet. That has to be a good thing, right?
I can’t help but recall a particularly rowdy evening in a pub in North Wales when friends and I put a £1 in the juke box & then programmed the Birdie Song to play ten times (it was the 80’s when £1 went a bit further than it does now) before quietly making our exit by a side door. We returned later that night and to our great amusement someone had unplugged the juke box at the wall.
What can I say, it seemed funny at the time. I was an extremely mischievous youngster.
Happy Sober Saturday everyone.
