Attitude

When people say ( or your AV) one life live it , I’m going to enjoy myself. Then carry on abusing themselves by drinking.

This attitude is a great attitude.
Just applied perversely.

I struggled with this.
I thought I had a bad attitude but that part I didn’t need to change. So it’s still alive and a great part of what makes me who I am today.
One Life Live It!
I can have it all or I can drink.
I can’t do both.
I’m not here for a long time so I may as well be here for a good time.

Great summation of the problem Snowydelrico. I'll also point out that the people who I know who are not addicts, and that really do live extraordinary and meaningful lives - they truly live the motto "One Life Live It!" - none of them have anything other than a very occasional drink. Alcohol commands nearly no presence in their lives. The connection is now glaringly obvious to me.

I get it. I understand wanting to live life to its fullest and enjoy it. I admit I’ve had a lot of fun times over the years drinking and partying. But. As my drinking career grew- the fun was pretty far and few between.
kinda like the things that I did when I was in my early 20’s for fun are not the same things that I have now-
my drinking career turned into a full time job with no benefits.

The thing is, i would have had fun times without the booze and partying. Thats my point.
its the way your av twists it into associate booze with good times. One big lie.

Good to hear from you Snowy

Without a doubt my best and fullest life is the one I’m living now

Sure live in the now, the short term.

If we invest in alcohol we can have a few good hours and then it all falls apart. The following day will be horrible for sure. This is already a pretty bad deal. Then comes all the lingering anxiety and depression over the following days. Also an obsession to drink that becomes wide awake.

Even in the short run, especially the short run taking a drink is not a good deal.

‘ live in the now’ great attitude.

I understand what you are saying.
I have got to the point where the thought of investing any time in alcohol fills me with dread, fear, anxiety, horror, nausea. All the things i am supposed to feel when i consider ingesting poison. I would have no hours of enjoyment if i was to have ‘a few drinks’.

these are also all the same feelings we have when we take the first steps to quit drinking.
so our feelings are misplaced too or ‘perversely applied’

May I suggest that anytime the AV perks up, challenge it with your sobriety goals in mind. Even say out loud "SHUT-UP" when the AV is about.

Keep on trucking
