Looking for a tribe
Looking for a tribe
Based in Melbourne and out of rehab with 36 days sober today. Very early days for me but I'm going ok. Trying to get to AA meetings when I can but as a single dad with two young kids it's not always easy to get out and meet other people on the same path. I realise that my current circle of friends will never really understand addiction (even though I'm convinced several probably are addicts without really accepting it).
After leaving rehab and going through the most honest, self reflective journey of my life thus far I'm just looking to say hello and connect with other people in the same boat.

Welcome MarkMc, you will likely find at least some others you will very much relate to, and a goldmine of information. I think SR is the most comprehensive source about recovery available to anyone and people are incredibly supportive. All the best!
Yeah, we are a tribe alright, kind of a dysfunctional tribe, but at least you can do this from home. However, SR can be a two edged sword. You may end up spending more time on line in a day than you would at a one hour AA meeting. And when you get so absorbed in a thread, your two kids might be running around poking each other with sharp sticks, or writing on the walls with magic markers.
But welcome.
But welcome.
It's so good to meet you, Mark. Congrats on your new freedom from alcohol.
When I found SR I'd been drinking for decades. No one in my life understood what I was going through. It meant everything to me when the people here shared their feelings & experiences. I wasn't alone anymore. Hope you'll feel the same.

Welcome aboard!
This place can be a very powerful stop gap for times you can't make it to a meeting or what not. I used to tap in here when I was travelling for work, etc. and found it extremely helpful - often moreso than meetings.
One foot in front of the other. Keep it simple.

Welcome Mark!
we are all in this together. I’m on day 5 of being sober. I have 2 kids 13 and 11. I live in uk. My life choices have more than likely finished my relationship so I am fragile. But every day we move on!
We are your tribe and you are our tribe! Talk to us whenever you need too!
