Help! So thirsty all the time.
Hi, I am new to chat forums so if I'm doing it wrong please let me know. In am wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms as me as I am getting very worried something is wrong. I was a severe alcoholic for about 8 years and about three months ago began to taper off with the help of my doctor and diazepam. It is four weeks since I had my last drink. Now I find I am thirsty alllll the time and have to get up a couple of times a night to pee. Has anyone else experienced this after stopping alcohol? My doctor has no real clue what's causing it and says it isn't diabetes but I'm worried something is wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Sophie I moved your thread to our Newcomers forum. You'll get more response here.
If you specifically want the chat room follow the instructions here:

I found when I quit I was thirsty - but it also had a lot to do with wanting to have a drink in my hand.
Eventually the thirst and the need to be holding a drink - any drink - faded away without any medical intervention

I too had constant thirst at first. I also had it when drinking.
I think I was so dehydrated from drinking 30+ years it took months to catch up. I'm no doctor so that could be far from reality but it did get better. I still wake a couple times a night to pee but I'm getting old so...
Don't worry too much if your doctor is monitoring it. As long as it's not alcohol, drink up.

The first few months I was thirsty all of the time. 16 months in, to this very day, I'll wake up with phantom hangovers and all sorts of symptoms such as feeling really dehydrated and thirsty. But now I can pass the moment with a chuckle and go get a drink of water.
If your doc isn't overly concerned, you should not be either. And stay away from Dr. Google - he doesn't know anything and will convince you that feeling thirsty means death is imminent.
Be patient with yourself. It was 6 months before I really started to hit my physical stride and as I mentioned above, to this very day my dirty AV pops in with some physical symptoms in an effort to get me to drink.

I try to finish eating about 4 or 5 hours before bed.
I also fast all the time these days. I couldn't do that for the first 4 years of my clean time. My mind couldn't take it.
Thanks.
