35 days!
35 days!
I am so happy at staying sober for 5 weeks today. This is by far the longest I have gone without a drink since I was about 19...almost a decade ago. I have been a binge drinker (usually 2-3 days a week) for 8ish years.
I get a lot of cravings, sometimes several times a day when I think of my triggers (for me...feeling good, the weekend, reading!) but I haven't been tempted to even go to the shop to pick up anything. The biggest challenge will be next week, when I have 2 weeks holiday off work. I work in education so get regular (unpaid) holidays, which would be when I'd usually make up for the lost days of drinking during term time. I know, especially with the days getting longer and sunnier, I'll have to overcome more triggers, but I'm looking forward to exercising more and hopefully losing some weight.
It's not been easy, but the biggest benefit I have seen so far is that I'm now sleeping like a baby most nights (I fall asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow most nights and actually wake up feeling pretty refreshed! For the first time in...I can't even remember!). I also have a LOT more energy during the day.
Just wanted to share as I feel really happy with myself. A lot of people around me, especially my colleagues who don't have a drinking problem, don't seem to get what a huge deal this is for me.

Congrats on the 35 days, IcingSugar!! Sober sleep is so much better than drunk sleep
Those folks without a drinking problem will never really understand how hard it is - good for them, really. You'll get plenty of support here for your efforts.

Congrats.
Drinking is a learned behavior.
We don't drink anymore. Born again non drinkers.
Very proud.
We here have the awareness to keep us from relapsing due to lack of education.
We understand booze is poisonous govt sanctioned toxic CNS damaging depressant.
We can get high using healthy ways.
Thanks.
