How’s your sober tools this weekend. 26- 29 March 2021 Weekenders
Welcome to Weekenders
How’s your sober tools lately?
Have you checked?
Why I ask is because I was curious when a dear SR friend said they had been sober 20 years and then turned to drink again.
They have since achieved many years sober again after finding help with SR.
When everything is fine it’s easy for me to say, but
If there was a major crisis in my life and the AV came calling......
Would I listen to it?
Would I give it head space?
Would I be tempted?
Would I fall down that slippery slope into the deep chasm again?
‘No, definitely not’ is my feeling right now at this present time.
I want and quite frankly I need this feeling to carry me through my life.
I know complacency can’t be in my makeup as I’m an alcoholic, albeit a sober one.
So I keep my sober tools ready for use, anywhere, anytime.
I visit SR every day as it is my most versatile tool I use. My other popular tool is ‘playing the tape forward’. I added another in the last year or so, Gratitude.
As I grow in sobriety I find I learn more too.
I learn never take for granted my sobriety.
How’s your sober tools?
If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can sometimes be a struggle .
(Psst. We’re not just here to talk about the good stuff, if you’re struggling.....shout out).
(We’re here all week too!)

My main sober tool is the local off licence won't sell me booze after an... incident, and I'm too anxious to walk further. Hey, if it keeps me sober.
Of course the pharmacy next door sells Listerine and hand sanitizer so .... :/. If a major crisis hits I might drink.
I'm trying to pray and meditate and focus on how much I want to stay sober for my parents. They're 66 and I've already put them through so much and they've still stuck by me. They're all I really have aside from one friend and I want to be a better son to them than I have been in the past.

Congratulations on Shotgun MantaLady
Freedomfries sounds very risky drinking listerine or hand sanitizer. Keeping sober can be the best way for you, then you’re abilities to help your mum and dad won’t be ruined by drinking and all it brings.

Thanks Mags!
Congrats on shotgun Manta
SR is my main tool. Checking in every morning, and also throughout the day when I can.
I’m currently having a milky drink or shake about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, when I am generally most tempted to drink. It seems to be helpful in stifling cravings.
Regular exercise helps, but I’ve pretty lax with that lately.....

Thanks Mags, I'm IN for a sober weekend. This will be my 9th consecutive sober weekend. Today is also my 2 month milestone.
Congratulations on shotgun Manta.
Freedomfries, hopefully you won't be tempted to drink Listerine or hand sanitizer. I know you're aware of this, but it's very dangerous to drink either as both contain methanol, a toxic form of alcohol.
Willow, SR is my main sober tool too. But I have started to practice gratitude and I do try to relax more as I find that helps calm my mind to a certain extent.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. There's lots of football on TV to watch including England, who play both tonight and Sunday.

Yes sober tools, controlling your thinking and knwoing yourself well enough to go get help elsewhere when you need it. Before explosion / implosion...
Mrs Vman gave me a little book last xmas about gratitude and being grateful in you life.
I think it helps alot too...

I think you need a better tool - one you have control over, FF.
What happened with AVRT?
Any interest going back to AA? SMART?
Thanks mags!
I too have been practicing gratitude lately. I have always wanted more more more. Now when I get that way I look at what I already have. Which I am very fortunate to still have.
My newest tool is listening to my brain. When I get out of sorts, which has happened more than I want lately I stop and look around to see what is causing it. It is almost always stress. It is also almost always something I can control if I try hard enough.
Going to see the grandbabies this weekend. The youngest is turning 1 yo so we are having a little get together. I will be sober and pretty sure stress free. What could be stressful about 2 toddlers and 6 dogs running around? lol

I'm in! Weekend tools will include: gardening/planting, staying busy around the house, playing pinball on our new Star Wars machine, a hot tub soak or two, checking in here with y'all. And probably consuming some soft serve ice cream somewhere amongst all of that.
IN!
Thanks Mags, SR and playing the tape forward would be my main tools these days, that and remembering that our addiction kills.
I'm glad you're still sober freedomfries, I don't know how much sober time you have but it does get easier with time.
Good to see you Andy, i'm glad we don't have vessels that size in my local canal or there would be trouble. That digger has its work cut out doesn't it?
Fortunately I have a plan...
