Friday Gratitude - 2 weeks in
It’s been 2 weeks since I went to the ER because I was dealing with withdrawals.
I want to express gratitude to this forum for providing me with support & empathy.
I want to express gratitude to my wife for being a rock & an amazing partner.
I want to express gratitude for feeling great this morning.
I can sleep. I can eat. I can drink coffee again. I can think with some clarity. I am not second guessing my actions, thoughts and behaviour. I am not dealing with irrational anxiety and paranoia. I am a better person, husband & father. I feel reconnected with the world.
Today is a good day. There will be bad days ahead. There will be highs and lows. There will be challenges and there will be moments of joy. But if I can maintain a direct connection with the world around me and be present - without the debilitating influence of alcohol - then I have a decent chance of making it. Alcohol just makes everything worse for me.
For those of our community that are struggling - know that it can be better - and will get better. I’m sorry for those that are experiencing low moments - there will be times when I will look to this forum to remind me that there is a better day ahead.
For now - I just want to be thankful and celebrate this moment of peace.
