Just wanted to share

I went out with a friend for a bite to eat and he ordered a beer. It didn't even occur to me until I got home that I never even thought about his beer or how I'd like to have one. I barely noticed him drinking it, like he was having a soda or water. It didn't even matter.

In the recent past I would be wringing my hands, fighting the cravings longing for what he was drinking.

I can't believe this. I feel like it's a real milestone!

I remember feeling a great sense of relief when I realized I was no longer thinking about drinking or wanting to drink. I felt so good, so free of the burden of drinking.

Just went through the same thing last night. Brother-in ordered a beer while sitting next to me and it didn't bother.
I noticed it and I realized it wasn't an issue at all.

Congrats WO - and yes, it's an amazing thing to realize after the fact. It's a real victory over the booze. Cherish it and return to it when you need support.

Yeah, that one is a milestone for sure. It's a big leap from, "I can't drink. I hope I don't drink," to "I don't even want a drink."

Yes a great milestone!
The work does payoff!

The wife and I went to a restaurant we had never been to before on Friday night. The nice waitress brought us menus and a drink list.
We ordered hot tea. She says " I will leave this here in case" referring to the drink menu. The wife was a little confused since we said we didn't want a drink.
I explained it was Friday night and we were probably the rare exception that doesn't have at least one drink so the waitress expected us to have a couple after dinner maybe. Friday night at a seafood restaurant.

Then I watched a table order beer after beer. The next table had an issue where they didn't have a certain type of liquor and they were trying to come up with an alternative which apparently was a big deal because they sure spent a lot of time and words trying to figure it out. OH THE HORROR!!
All the while sipping our tea enjoying the scenery and some good food without the distraction of alcohol.

You notice so much more of what's going on around you when you aren't focused on drinking and getting drunk. It's truly a good feeling. Plus the bill at the end of the evening is cheaper.
