Fun without booze this weekend 12 - 15 March 2021 Weekenders

:egg3:

I would have never associated fun to be without alcohol once.

I felt like every day was a holiday when I drank.

Even after the horrendous hangovers I went back for more.

Looking back I wasn’t having fun, I was stuck on a repetitive ride I didn’t even know I was on.

Getting off that ride was the best but most challenging time of my life.

So fun without booze? Yes it’s possible.

This weekend as many of us are restricted by the virus, I’m going to think of the future. Things I want to do and go. Have you thought of plans when restrictions are over?

When we can go out safely.

What will you do?

My wants aren’t impossible.

A meal out.

Go to the local park and listen to a group playing.

Visit my family and friends properly, not 6 feet from their doorstep.

Walking behind a waterfall.

Simple things I once took for granted.

What’s your hope for you, post-covid?

Whatever we do, doing it sober is so much more fun.

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!) :)

Mags1 03-11-2021 04:51 AM

Hiya Fishkiller, I agree, poison! :yup:

Hiya CaptainHaddock:)

I’ve just filled our census in on line. Gosh they ask some pertinent questions! :dunno:

How many people post on computers? Seems like one line posts are the norm lately which leads me to think everyone is using a phone.

No matter, just curious.

(Trying to cover for my long posts.)

In this past year "fun" has changed a lot for everyone I'm thinking. Fun used to involve other people. Now it involves a duck on a river. Certainly life has gone inward quite dramatically for me. I'm just super grateful I survived this year and looking back at it there were only a handful of actual panic days but that was enough.

Early next week I get my second Pfizer jab. I feel like I already am protected, it's been three weeks since I had the first one. Yesterday when I was on a walk I didn't freak out when I accidentally touched my nose with my finger.

I haven't had fish and chips in a year. That sounds like a super fun thing to me right now. I guess the whole thing has been humbling. One of the nurses at the vaccine site said, "We have all learned to be more flexible. We adapt."

True that.

...also dis looks fun:

Literal LOL!

Bim I use my tablet to go on the internet. I can’t get used to the keys on the laptop. :dunno:
You can’t beat having a chat to a duck on the water! :)

Hiya Mizz.

biminiblue 03-11-2021 05:40 AM

I'm thinking I'll buy a tablet when/if this computer dies...but I'll probably be buying a wireless external keyboard too.

Mizz 03-11-2021 05:43 AM

Hi, Mags!
Im going to try to join in on this thread. I kind of lurk and then come in with one liners but Im really shooting for participating in the conversation here. Thank you for the great opening! As for end of pandemic plans.......
I should make some.

MLD51 03-11-2021 06:13 AM

I'm in! Thanks, Mags!
I am happy to report that I have an appointment for two weeks from right now to get my first Moderna jab. In Wisconsin, educators (and support staff) are eligible now, and yesterday they announced a vaccine clinic where I work. We knew it was coming, but until yesterday it sounded like it was at least a month away. I'm thrilled.

Top of my list for when things are "safe" for me to move about: Seeing my mom and her husband for more than a few minutes masked and at a distance. I'm imagining a nice lunch at my home or theirs. Seeing my older daughter and my granddaughter in person for more than a few minutes (it will be a while before my daughter gets vaccinated). A meal in a nice restaurant (I have been out a couple of times, but only quick meals, nervously eaten, as fast as possible, in places with really good practices, right when they open). Going to a movie in a movie theatre. Simple stuff. But mostly, just not being nervous all the time at work and everywhere I go will feel good.

I have some thoughts on the "fun without drinking" subject, but I have to go get my bi-weekly covid test right now. Back later.

Mags1 03-11-2021 07:35 AM

Mizz, be good to see you here more. :)

Bim, I’d be lost without my tablet. I did try a keyboard with it once (not wireless)but I found I preferred the keyboard on the pad.

Marty, it will be a relief when we can go out for a meal with an easy mind. And see our relatives closer.
