I Don't Drink

I have come across this song by Tom MacDonald, and the lyrics really describe me, and I should think many of you.

I screwed up, I just wanna say I'm sorry
It's all my fault, you should probably ignore me
Oh my God, should've given you a warning
All my friends are sick and tired of the story

I don't drink, 'cause when I'm drunk I'm annoying
Call your phone when it's three in the morning
Start a fight, parked a whip in your garden
Probably think, I am ******** ********

Please don't call me crazy 'cause I'm not
Last night, I had one too many shots
Blacked out, got arrested by the cops
Woke up on the neighbour's front lawn

Every time that I'm hungover, I convince myself I'm dying
Where the hell'd my pants go and why is my girlfriend crying?
I say that I remember what I did, but I am lying
There's a tattoo on my butt-cheek
It's a beer can and he's smiling

I'm pretty sure that last night went down in history
We made it out alive and that's a victory
Black eyes and minor injuries
We lost a fight together, that's a win to me....
****WARNING: SOME OF HIS LYRICS MAY CAUSE OFFENCE****

I lost a group of old school 'friends' around ten years ago, following my antics at a wedding reception. I have never been forgiven for what I did - which was terribly embarrassing. Apparently the whole group got together and decided they were sick of my drunkenness, and decided I was to be shunned for all eternity. Needless to say, this song resonated with me.

I love the thought of best friends and family that have each others backs no matter what the circumstances. That's not reality. Everything is dependent on the circumstances. I'm in the same boat - I never talk to friends I was close with even three years ago. But you can't control other people or the outside world. All you can control is your thoughts, action and emotions in the present moment.

All you can do is forgive yourself and get better. If they forgive you and get back into your life, great. If not, keep on living.

Absolutely true. I'm actually reengaging with other friends from years back, but those I referred to above have been very judgemental and spiteful, which is hurtful.

Wow, thanks Auchie!
I never heard Tom MacDonald before - this took me to "Castles," which I liked even better.

I fell down the staircase at my younger sister's wedding. Yes, it's true the next day.

I was sent to Coventry by my entire family, but welcomed back once I got sober, and people could tell I meant it. And I knew I meant it.

"Little sister don't do what your big sister done." So grateful.

I've done sooo many embarrassing things Aucjie. I also think people should forgive. Mostly.

It is about forgiving ourselves and becoming the person we would want to be. To be kind to ourselves and others.

Be sober for you. Everything else is icing on the cake.

I'd get that *tattoo of a beer can on your butt* removed. It'll make all the difference.

I don't think the lyrics of the song really reflect you.

I think you are sensitive.

LOL Thanks. Aye, I'm now 479 days sober and still repairing the damage done. I can't change what other people think of me, I can only try to do what's right. I imagine those lyrics will describe many folks' experiences, too...
