Stomach doing somersaults.
That's been the main physical side effect for me, happened a few days after I skipped my usual drinking day. Been pretty consistent since. Anyone else experienced this? I'm not in any pain, I more just feel a bit like I've eaten something a bit off, or watched something that turned my stomach. Anxiety perhaps?

Alcohol is bad for the lining of your stomach, your gut microbiology, and of course your liver, all of which are a part of digestion.
After I quit drinking things slowly stabilized and my stomach is a lot more predictable. I think it takes some time for the body to find a new equilibrium.

I had some pretty severe significant issues that took a while to clear up after I quit. It was caused not only by my drinking, but my lack of proper diet as well.
I also deal with anxiety, which can be another driver of GI/stomach issues.

My diet actually hasn't been too bad for the last few years. I lost about 100 pounds while getting hammered a few times a week so I was definatily living a weird, extreme lifestyle. (I still have about another 100 to go)
When you were drinking heavy, your body's preferred form of nutrition became alcohol. It is the easiest substance to metabolize there is and your system just jettisoned the rest. All of the good food you were eating went unused. Now that your GI system is learning that it once again must convert your food for your body's energy source, it is shifting gears. Listen to your Doc of course, but I don't think there is anything to worry about while your body learns to function normally again.
