Drinking BECAUSE of SR comments .
We've all crashed icandothis. It can be part of the learning if we let it.
I'm having a really difficult time with my daughter at the moment. She's in hospital. Schizophrenia. Not same situation as you, though certainly the guilt, and it's all my fault reared. Stress.
But to drink upon it would be absurd. I need to be present for my daughter, as well as be present to myself. This is the big one for me. I'm learning distancing, where distance can be embracing.
To comply with the demands made on me by my daughter will not be sustainable so have to find ways to detach without harming her. It's painful.
Maybe further distancing yourself from your son? Just getting sober and showing him what good parenting can look like from a distance. Sober. He'll notice from a distance.

I will share some wisdom from the recovery program I work (Women For Sobriety):
You are responsible for yourself and for your actions. You are in charge of your mind, your thoughts, and your life.
No one else's words or actions made you drink.
Why not have a look at WFS and stop seeing yourself as a victim? It could be very freeing. Give it a try!

Stuff happens in life.
People say things.
People do things.
For me, my sobriety cannot be contingent on any of those things. Because I'll end up drunk and dealing with the same crap that made me stop drinking in the first place.

In all fairness to ICDT, I don't think, as some have misconstrued, that she was blaming anyone here for drinking. I think she was just saying that because everyone here supported her, she felt a sense of relief. And drank on that. We've all done it.
Glad you're sober again ICDT.

I used to have a similar problem, when going to AA, I would want to drink after.. I would think to myself, "Wow, maybe I'm not an alcoholic.. these people are messed up." I was wrong, very wrong. Their rock bottom was just different than mine. End of the day, we all have the same common goal, and that's what is important to me now.
