Im back. Im ready
Years ago I was here.
Im back.
Im ready........ to put the drink behind me.
Im over 50- I was just thinking how I can remember - as far back as 18 when I first drank....had 3 beers and was out of control. but LOVED IT
Then when I turned 21 .....when I (somehow) drove home and literally crawled up the stairs to vomit at 3am after "clubbing".
The next day was spend in bed....."never again"....till next weekend....
The drink returned in my 40's.
And has come and gone in my early 50's
Im back. (here)
Im ready. (to hear from you...to quit)
Its time. (past time)
HELP. please.....
Thanks

Welcome back, Ascended. We have to be ready - I waited until my 50's to quit. I kept playing with it, trying to use willpower to control it. In the end, I found myself drinking every day. It was no longer fun or relaxing - it had become a necessity. You're ready - that is wonderful news. Keep on reading & posting. We're here to help, & we know you can do it.
Welcome back....Im 56 (57 this year in summer)...I’m surprised at how many people have stories similar to mine and I can surely relate to quitting at age 50-something...It was no longer fun to drink...Health began to deteriorate...
Some serious soul searching led me back here after my first posts around 2007...Glad you’ve made the best decision for your life...Im sure you’re happier for it and so am I.
Keep on keepin on!!

Well, I was 64 when I finally quit. That was almost nine years ago. Soberrecovery was an important part of my path upward, along with the 12 steps, meetings, and working to become physically, emotionally, and spiritually fit. We are great at inventing "barriers" to success. In Zen we call that "if only mind." If only this I could get sober, if only that I could get sober... The only barrier is us. We must become willing to meet life where it is. Right now, right here. The past year has been very difficult for me, beyond the obvious. It has never occurred to me to drink. What has occurred to me is gratitude that I can face these difficulties fully present. You can do it. I know you can.

I can relate... I’m on day 53 and am 59 yo. I abstained from age 52 to 56, but got complacent and made the mistake of thinking I beat it and could control it. That was a huge mistake. By 2020 I was up to almost a fifth of vodka at least 4-5 days a week.
I will make it work this time, getting too old to meet mucking with my health. I quit smokes at 49 and booze at 59.
Life is better when you can sleep normal, think straight and make good decisions.
