Smile So glad I'm sober!

No worries during this snow storm about how I'll get out to get my wine. I used to go out in all kinds of conditions just to get my wine. Now I'm happily warm and safe at home and have no need of wine.

Being sober means I'm alert and ready to deal with any storm related problems. Being sober means taking the time to sweep a clear space in the front yard for Billie to go potty without resting her butt right in the snow.

There is no problem so bad that alcohol can't make it worse. I'm so glad I don't have to drink anymore.

I remember snow days meant drink all day no work...”fun” days. Reality: Getting the booze at 9 am, going to booze store was closer but still, should’ve stayed off roads, cause of said storm. Then just passing out earlier and feeling like **** the next morning. Now I appreciate not being on the roads! If — I get a day off at all anyways. I will do other things like catch upon laundry, study for a cert, etc. Just stay warm!

In my drinking days the most simple, satisfying things became nightmarish grinds, and they just didn't get done. The daily simplicity of sobriety is so beautiful.

It’s a massive logistics undertaking being an alcoholic. Every journey, holiday, day out, visit, etc., gets planned to perfection to avoid the horror of having to go without. And woe betide anyone who invites you to dinner and has no booze. How selfish!

It’s tiring and so much easier not to bother.

Hope you thaw out soon, Least.

That's a good point! The weather here has been less than favorable as well, so glad I haven't had to trek to the liquor store.

Hey there, thank you for the post! I love that quote that there is no problem alcohol can't make worse! I agree completely. I find the winter has been a good time to change the paradigm I exist in. I go for cold walks in my shorts, cold dips in the river, and meditate in the cold. I usually just do one per day, but it has changed my entire outlook on winter. The reason I took it up is because of how difficult it is for the mind. Every day when I make the difficult decision to go out into the cold, I prepare myself for a tough decision I need to make in my recovery. Check out wim hof on youtube if it interests you or others .
Have a blessed day!

Snow here too.
I remember such weather meant being holed up in a bar and then at home drinking away no-stop more or less......solving the world's problems except my own.

Yard cleared of snow plus a retired neighbor's yard too
Today it's 21 °F (-5°C) and clocked 6.2miles (10km) in 56mins....I'm well into my 50's and loving every single day sober, extremely grateful and living each and every day to the maximum.
