When the AV starts calling.....am I ready? Weekenders 12 - 15 February 2021
Welcome to the Weekenders
Am I prepared as much as I think I am? Sometimes I feel I need to remind myself.
I’ve got my tool box, is it dusty, do I know it’s contents and can I go and get the appropriate tool easily to keep living a sober life?
Or as I like to compare using a sober tool to...crossing the road. Once you’ve learnt the basics, looking both ways to ensure the road is clear then cross, its automatic for us to do this and we don’t really think about it.
(I hope you don’t mind me using some of your old post,Saou)
@saoutchik used a great tool, a while back, he said
I had to tell some really great Aussie guys staying at my hotel about my alcoholism, we have been exchanging some banter about a recent cricket match between England and Australia (which wasn't easy as the Aussies thrashed us) and they asked me to go to the bar with them. If they had been a less convivial bunch it would have been easy but with them I think I might have struggled.
How prepared for the AV was Saou. Just dealt with the moment and moved on.
If we have the right tools we can act on our cravings.
If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)
Count me in for the weekend!
My best tool in my sober tool box is Gratitude. Having an attitude of gratitude has improved my life so much. When I am focused on my blessings, I'm not focusing on what I don't have. Helps me accept that life happens on life's terms, and for me to try to make the best of things, no matter how dire the situation may be. And being sober makes it easier to deal with trouble with a clear head.
Having my SR family to converse with helps a lot too.

Thanks Mags! I'm totally mixed up with the days this week and forgot / didn't realise today is Thursday so it's time for a new thread.
I'm IN.
I'm still putting together my sober toolbox. It means when the AV hits I don't always have the right tool in place to use. Or maybe I just don't always know which tool to use.

I think my tools are broken. Gonna have to get some new ones.
To had insult to injury of feeling bad, I just fell over in the garden while feeding the birds. Maybe it was a reminder of what being drunk is like. I totally lost my balance and fell backwards, not even on the ice. I have grazed and bruised my arms, hurt my already painful hip and jarred my back.
Oh happy day!
I did manage not to spill my bucket of bird food. That's my gratitude.

Hope you will be alright Kaily. I agree with Caramel, I hope the birds are grateful!
Not spilling the food reminds me of something that happened many years ago. I was walking home late one night, middle of winter with the pavements all iced over. I'd just been for a takeaway and was walking back home. I slipped, went crashing to the ground but managed to put my elbow down on the ground as I fell, perfectly balancing my takeaway food a couple of inches just above the ground. I was was bruised but my food was perfectly fine!

I'm in.
Thanks, Mags.
Sorry Kaily, I fell twice last week (but) on the ice.
Neck, back, etc.
It's been terrible here.
Even with a brand new red Hurrycane. LOL.
Hope you feel better soon.
Happy birthday Dad yesterday.
I miss you.
Thanks, Mags.

Willow, No, no one called shotgun! Unless you just did!
Kaily, ow! Ouch! Hope you’re not too battered and bruised. I’m sure the birds was happy.
Lunar, hope you’re ok from your falls too. Happy birthday to your dad 🙏 , hope you’re ok, birthdays can be so raw when we lose our loved ones.

Hi Reid
In, thanks Mags.
Kaily, I was relieved to read that you didn’t give in, well done! I hope you feel better soon. It gives me pleasure to refill the bird feeders every now and then, even if I have to risk life and limb climbing a ladder to do so. Sometimes they even seem to spur me on, sitting around watching me, chirping and so on. So I agree with Caramel, those birds of yours had better show some gratitude!
Hope you are doing fine as well, Samantha.
