Time to quit.
I am new here and on my seventh day of not drinking. No props, just straight abstinence. Many years ago I had tried to give up smoking cigarettes.Tried all the usual methods, hypnosis, willpower, rewards etc. Out of curiosity I joined a forum like this in order to connect with people with similar goals. As a one finger typist I found that by posting during times of craving my concentration shifted to my need to write a reasonable and coherent post. It worked. I gave up smoking as I had diverted my attention elsewhere.
I am a 4 o'clock in the afternoon type of drinker. I live on acreage in Australia so sun and cold beers go together. Trouble is I could never drink one beer and ended up on number 8 before the loathing set in. Not every day as I hated the day after feeling and my ability to function. But on enough days for it to be noticeable. So here I am to begin my journey to sobriety. With your help. And my one finger typing.

welcome, paddywack.
one-finger typist here also (i hear it’s called keyboarding now, though), and as you can see from my post-count, it hasn’t stopped me from participating
way to go on 7 days, and it’s not anomalous to find that a meal can curb the drinking urge.
there is an acronym that is often used: HALT: hungry, angry, lonely, tired, which are well-known “triggers” for drinking-desires in new sobriety.

I have been away from this board for a while- it sure helped in my early days of sobriety. This was one of my places I would go to when I was struggling. Good luck to you. It is such a blessing once you get past the early days and you get a little wind in your back.
