Words of encouragement for those struggling.
Four years ago this month, I was lucky enough to find this forum. I had recently retired and knew that my drinking was starting to have an effect on my health. The kind responses to my first posts from many wonderful people on this forum gave me the strength to finally stop drinking after many futile attempts.
To those just starting down the road to recovery, it is tough at the beginning. However, if you stick with it the reward is tremendous. My life is so much better without booze and yours will be too.
So, don’t wait until you are old like me. If you can really commit yourself to becoming sober you will be glad you did. I highly recommend posting here a lot when starting out. You will get great advice that will help strengthen your resolve to stay sober. If it worked for me, it will for you too!

Old. No way..!!!!
It was explained to me 30 yrs ago when I entered recovery,
that the day we stopped drinking, is actually the age we began
drinking. Mentally speaking.
I was 30 yrs old when I first full day sober. I was about 17
yrs. old when my addiction began.
When we begin drinking at a young age, the affects of this
toxic substance stunts our mentality. Our minds are somewhat
frozen in time or that point.
Now, i can be explaining this wrong, but in what was taught
to me, it finally made sense as I continued to grow in all areas
of my life once i entered recovery.
So some 30 yrs sober later, i'm 60ish but my heart, mind and
soul is still young and still growing and maturing.
With taking care of myself through out my recovery journey,
today I feel young and vibrant and energized more so than
ever.
You should and can too.
4 yrs is an awesome accomplishment.
