Got a sponsor

My many attempts at quitting have not been successful.

It’s been 2 months and I’ve been doing things differently this time around. Being gentle with myself, and taking it slow and allowing myself time to process and gently heal. I really want a life and I sure wasn’t living while I was drinking.

I reached out yesterday for a sponsor. I’m meeting with her tomorrow. I feel very good about this as I’ve never taken this step before and feel it’s a good direction for my recovery.

That is great SuzieQ. A person you can see and talk to is important I think. I am blessed with some great in-real-life support and it makes a difference. Of course we haven't been in the same room for the last 10+ months, but we still get together in online meetings where we can see and hear each other. Good luck with your sponsor and I hope it goes well. .

Really good news SuzieQ, and can't can't agree more with the "taking it slow" approach. I'm trying practice same and though not very good at it yet, can see the difference it makes. Not feeling fraught all of the time, going with the flow, accepting, forgiving, and sober all the way.

Important to have someone to talk with f2f. I hope you and your sponsor make a match and if not, you can always choose another. Good sponsors understand.

Congrats on 2 months Suzie. Best thing we can ever do for ourselves.

Hi Suzie - that is great! I feel like I need to do the same. How did you find your sponsor? I will have 1 month on Monday and what you wrote is exactly what I am doing/how I am feeling - time to take the next step

Thanks for the support everyone.

ANM—I attended local Zoom meetings. I attended different ones. One group was very welcoming and one person in particular reached out directly to me at the end of the meeting. I kept the number and when I was ready contacted her. Hope this helps!

That is wonderful you have found a sponsor. I am currently looking for one as well. I am ready to start working the steps.

Good luck at your meeting tomorrow! And congratulations on 2 months sober.

The meeting went well. She asked my story, I broke down in tears telling her and she was understanding. I’ve never asked for help during any other quit—this is a big step for me and I’m ready. Thanks everyone.

Yesss!!! Honestly.....getting a sponsor truly made me realize that I have never actually tried to be sober before...I just did what I wanted.
Now I have a sponsor...I attend meetings with purpose, read the BB (most helpful for me), and contribute and help newcomers...and I absolutely love it!
you're going to do so well!!
