Fell Down, getting back up
I am a lurker but I thought it might help to post. I made it to three days and was feeling so much better mentally. The worst part was insomnia. So yesterday I caved. I know why I did and I am making a plan for when this situation happens again. I am not beating myself up, but using this as a learning experience. I feel very depressed today which has started happening lately when I drink. This motivates me to change because I literally can’t live this depressed. Thanks for listening. I will try to post more.

Welcome to the posting side of things Macaroni
Insomnia is pretty much par for the course - but it gets get better. I slept nothing the first night, a little more the second and a little more the third...by 10 days things were pretty good for me.
If insomnia is a real problem for you, though, I'd really urge you to see a Dr rather than drinking again cos drinking again just resets the problem, Mac.

Welcome, Macaroni,
I'm glad you posted. It's good that you learned from the experience and have a plan in place so that it won't happen again. Alcohol is a depressant, so hopefully you will start to feel better when you are sober.

Hi Mac! It's great to have you posting - I hope you'll stay with us. It helps lessen the anxiety to share our thoughts. We all understand what you're going through, like no one else can. You can do this!
It took me a while to have normal sleep patterns again. At least a couple weeks. But now my sleep is the best its ever been. Give yourself more sober time for things to get back to normal.
Welcome Macaroni.
It's much better when you start posting, get to know people. Share. Feedback.
Things will improve with time Macaroni. Just don't pick up, and you'll be on your way.
Do you have any support outside of (now) posting here?

Welcome Mac. Yes, it really helps to post, and to come on here once or twice a day.
My sleep improved over the course of the first week, but I still get some nights where I wake up for awhile in the middle of the night, after two months. It's probably a combination of mild anxiety and racing thoughts, but I just have to accept it for now. I do drink a lot of coffee, lol.

Hi Mac. I hope you are well. So, give the sleep thing some time. I'm 14+ months sober and one night per week, I might not sleep a wink. It is one of the last functions to return to normal upon sobriety and for people like me, I just probably suck at sleeping. Here's the thing though - next time you are dealing with some insomnia, rethink the whole bit. It isn't really that consequential. If I am up all night, in the middle of the night if something comes up, I am sober and can chew leather. In the morning, when the sun comes up, I might be tired, but I can chew leather. I work full time, and these days on occasion I might be tired from lack of sleep but I can still work. No biggie. SOOOOO much better than trying to do all that s&yt hung over.
I wanted to be yet another person to chime in on the sleep bit. I spent the first three weeks not being able to sleep and once I was exhausted out, nightmares! Week 4 I was sleeping better, a couple of months things got really good. So that’s the bad news, sleeping issues seem to be the norm in early sobriety. The good news it it gets better. If it doesn’t, you will have been sober, so you can look into other reasons or see a Dr. Now, you DO have to get sober and get through it. It sucks. Knowing that it will suck and is temporary may help you get through it. Drinking sets you back to the start of bad sleep. So it’s just delaying the inevitable. Sleeps not always perfect, but most nights it’s great now. It’s not getting old and so much better than a hangover 😀 it’s worth it!
