Lost
Hi. It's not too tough once you get the lay of the land. I tend to hang out mostly in this section where we are now, the Newcomers to Recovery. Even though I've been sober for eight years part of me thinks the new will never wear off! I saw your other posts and wanted to try to offer some encouragement. Most of us were in the same position at one time. I drank hard for 25 years and last five or so were extraordinarily bad. I could literally feel the booze killing me and breaking down my body. Quitting was the only way to save my life but the first few days I felt like I was drowning and had panic attacks when I tried to get to sleep. Actually had to sleep with the lights on for a few days, first time since I was four! My guess is that I'd have died within a few years, tops, if I hadn't stopped drinking. Like you I don't think I ever really fell asleep, just drank til I passed out. I knew I had to stop but didn't know if I could have a meaningful life without booze. Well, I'm happy to report that, given a bit of time, I realized the only way to have a meaningful life was sober!
If you look down the threads there will be a green dot under the name of people who are logged onto SR right now. If you look at the entire subforum there will be a kind of lightning bolt looking thing but threads that you have posted in. The posting part it looks like you have figured out.
I hope you will stick around and post! Not to be overly dramatic but this place really helped to save my life. You'll find a lot of understanding and support here, @Simp1982.
