What a wonderful gift your daughter gave you with that text! And it was well deserved - you earned it! It's great that she recognized your big sober anniversary, that made me tear up a bit :-) I hope you use those words whenever you are having a hard day and it gives you continued motivation in your sobriety. Congrats on one year!!

Such a tremendous moment!
Heartbreak rarely comes full circle. You did what you needed to do, and then something blows your mind. I can't imagine what you were feeling during all this.
A great way to start any year.

52yo male here and I am crying too. Tears of happiness for you. I know that feeling of a son and daughter being mad at you. It sucks. I am now 3 years, 2 months, 3 weeks and two days sober from alcohol. In that time I have gotten and kept a great job with great benefits, a pension, paid vacation, sick days, its incredible the blessings that have come my way. I have two young grandsons who never have to see their grandfather drunk. Friends in AA told me it would take time for my kids to trust me again...... and it did. I thought I had let that alcoholism ruin that relationship with them. That alone could have led me to drink again. But I stayed sober no matter what.
Those relationships are healing. Tomorrow I make a 3 hr drive to have our xmas together. Their mother filed for divorce when she couldn't take it anymore. So I make sure to get down there when I can. I am grateful for any time I get to spend with them and and grateful for the job that affords me those opportunities.
I have gotten those texts and also have had them tell me how proud they are of me. Crying again! Thanks for reminding me to always stay grateful

Wow. Thank you all for the wonderful messages. In exactly 3 minutes I’ll be working on year 2. I can’t believe it.
One of the many things I learned here early on is that recovery is a process that takes years. That understanding really helped me to have realistic expectations in my first year. It also gives me hope because I know I’m going to keep getting stronger in the years to come. Recovery really is like a rebirthing. Right now I think I’m nearing the end of the terrible toddler stage! Lol
But I’d rather be a demanding toddler than a sick, paranoid, functioning alcoholic caught in a downward spiral.
Cheers to sobriety!

Those 3 minutes must have ticked on by Sober45. I've been keeping my eyes open for when you hit your 1 year anniversary as we are both on a similar timeline. I didn't want to miss it.
Congratulations Sober45. You have done amazingly well and the rewards are coming your way in so many wild and wonderful ways. Reconciliation with your daughter worth the world.
Heres to sobriety, Sober45!
