Welcome Vik. Since alcohol is having a negative effect on your life, stopping drinking is the best thing to do. There is lots of support here. It's always a good idea to come up with a plan for how you intend to stop drinking and to stay sober.

Welcome Vik to SR. SR welcomes members from all over the globe.

SR is a great place to be active in your own recovery.

I find having some kind, even a personal recovery plan to practice is very helpful.
You can do that here at SR

We're glad you're here!

The way i see it alcoholism is two parts. An allergy to alcohol combined with an obsession to drink it.

Maybe not technically an allergy but when i take a drink my body does not react like a normal person. Once I taste alcohol I can not control how much i will drink or what i will do.

Then there is the mental obsession. Knowing what alcohol does to me I would have to be insane to want to drink it again. Yet disaster after disaster I drank again and again.

This obsession will defy logic. Especially early on. If you're, for example, 10 days sober and really craving it may seem like if I am craving this bad on day 10, day 11 will be impossible. That's not how it really works though. Cravings are like waves in the ocean. You just have to ride them out and know they will pass. Cravings are just very brief periods of insanity that will pass and grow weaker over time. Though it may seem they are only going to grow stronger. Taking another drink and repeating the early days again is what makes cravings stronger and can lead to a cycle of relapse and recovery.

Cravings will come but they are temporary.
