15 days today and going strong.

It’s been 15 days since I had something to drink, and for some reason getting sober this time around has been a different experience. I simply don’t feel the desire to drink. Amazing! I am
absolutely repulsed by the thought of alcohol. I will admit I’ve thought of having something to drink maybe a few times but I’m always disgusted immediately after. Also, I’ve had It a little easier with refraining from alcohol due to the pandemic. I can’t really meet up with friends at restaurants right now so that “pressure” is off. I know I need to come up with a game plan when I’m out in those situations...and I don’t want to explain why I’m not drinking. Any advice on how to approach these situations?

🤍

Congratulations on 15 days of sobriety, and it sounds like you're doing well. Yes, having a plan for dealing with difficult situations will always help with your recovery. In fact, having a plan can make the difference between succeeding and not. And, remember that you have no obligation to explain to anyone why you are not drinking. A simple 'No, thank you' should suffice. Your recovery is your personal journey and it's up to you if or when you want to talk to people about it. You should never feel pushed into revealing something when you're not ready. And, most of us find that, others seldom take much notice in what we're drinking anyways.

congrats on 2 weeks
there are a lot of good tips here
https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...val-guide.html (Social Occasion Survival Guide)

but in all honesty at 2 weeks I think it's too early to start thinking about that

start small start easy and work up to things

If you are asked why you're not drinking, ask them a question - "Why does it bother you?" And that should be the end of it. Sometimes if I'm asked, I say I quit drinking for my health, which is absolutely true.

It is early days but the best excuse I have ever heard I simply explaining that you aren’t a very nice person when you drink( not saying your not but
I turn into a horrible person). Any decent person would leave it at that.

I guess I really depends on who you are out with ie trusted friends, family, work colleagues.

when I accepted that it wasn’t right for me I actually confided in some people that it had gotten out of hand and needed a break. Years later when I had spiralled and couldn’t take it anymore I announced to everyone that I had a problem. Was awkward for a while and I was judged but I don’t regret it. I actually grew closer to a lot of people because of my honesty. People can say what they like but I had a problem that was making me miserable, going to kill me and needed help. Personally, my life is worth so much more than anyone’s opinion and I always looked up to recovered people who were open and giving back.

In todays time, there are a many a folks taking a
stand in wanting and need to get and stay healthy
in their lives.

There are lots of unhealthy foods and drinks that
athletes don't go near because like I mentioned,
are unhealthy.

The older we get, again there are foods and beverages
that dont work for us and never will. They cause more
harm to our insides making us feel bad.

There are loads of foods and drinks folks are allergic
to. Look at the little folks with diabetes as well as folks
of all ages.

Strawberries, nuts, flour, etc are just a few things
that cause an allergic reaction. And so does alcohol.

I have come to learn that I have an allergic reaction
to alcohol and it affects me mentally, physically, emotionally
as well as spiritually.

Once i found out about the components of alcohol
and drugs, what makes up these substances and
what they do to our bodies, minds, motor skills and
more, the poison that destroys my insides, became
a key to my recovery in achieving sobriety and recovery
some 30 yrs ago.

I'm all in for saying that alcohol or drugs destroys
and isnt good for me today, tomorrow or ever.

In my experience, the more comfortable you are not drinking the easier it is telling people. I am only nervous around people I used to drink a lot with but I don't see them as often any more. Normal drinkers shouldn't care and if you just say, I don't drink, they will let it go.

Today is a bit of a struggle.

Thank you for all the advice!

Thankfully I have amazing people in my life currently that would understand completely if I just said “no.”

Today is a bit of a struggle:
I had an onset of anxiety rush to me today. I wasn’t stressed or pressured in any way. I’m still experiencing uneasiness. Pfffffff...breathe....I won’t allow myself to go buy alcohol but my mind is saying a little won’t hurt. Ugh be gone AV!
