This time I will succeed

Had a bad day yesterday and had a binge last night.

Woke up this morning and have thrown all remaining alcohol down the sink.

2020 has been a really difficult year for me alcohol wise. I have had a desperate desire to stop but have been unable too.

Looking forward to 2021, this time I will succeed.

It's not too late to make 2020 the year you quit drinking. Something positive has to come out of this year. You can do this

What will you do differently this time to break this 'binge, regret, throw alcohol down the sink' cycle?

Proud that you threw the alcohol out... that's hard to do. You can do this!

My advice is not to wait for the New Year - do it now.
I also think you need to do something different Stable.

Just wanting to be sober, especially just after a relapse, is sometimes just not enough.

I'll say this as gently as I can - You have a lot of 'I'mma do things different this time' threads.

It's time to follow through, man.

Action works.

You sound determined, Stable. Sometimes it takes further research to admit we just can't touch the stuff. Bad & dangerous things will always happen when we do. You can do it, and stay free this time.

I second Dee’s response. Everyone here wants you to quit and enjoy the life a lot of us are having now, but the difference is people who’ve successfully quit had made big changes. Whatever you’re doing isn’t working. If you’re pouring all this alcohol down the sink, you must’ve gone out and bought a whole load of it. Lock yourself in, leave your cash/wallet/cards at work or elsewhere, see your GP, just do something.

Hi Stable, wishing you are well

I know the desire to quit and yet my actions thwart my intentions. Finding a way to turn desires in to actions can take time. I understand that from my own experience with intention to positive action. Maybe find something to do that helps you stay sober. Keep posting here SR as your recovery program, that would be a positive action

Yes, this.

Not saying this about you Stable, but Hodd is right. So many people think that the way they quit is that they just really want to quit this time so they do. That’s just not how it works. It takes drastic psyche and life changes. So what will you be changing to ensure success?
