Welcome to Weekenders 06 - 09 November 2020

:welcome

Welcome to the Weekenders :wavey:

If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!) :)

“Suddenly we are faced with ourselves, who we really are. Someone we haven't seen or got to know in a very long time. We may not know how to react. To ourselves or to others. Look in the mirror and say glad to meet me.”

A wise SR member said these words to me when I was newly sober. I was floundering and unsure of myself and really didn’t know who I was as a sober person!

And it’s true! We start again with a sober slate and a dollop of hope and faith. And slowly we begin to find ourselves and find life gets better without the booze.

"Someday" is not one of the days of the week, and "hopefully" is not a plan. Now is the time to start.

I'm here for my second addiction-free weekend. Yay!

Phil71els 11-05-2020 02:14 AM

Count me in please :)
Things are getting better. I dont want to jinx it though. Day 19 today. Looking forward to the weekend and sober times!! It is so much more fun and easier to get through with no hangover and some decent sleep!
As several on the forum suggest, I have started to practice daily gratitude. I have read that it takes time to get into the swing of it and it is early days but I am beginning to see how it helps to highlight the good things, both those you had already and those gained from sobriety. I tend to dwell on the negatives and wallow so much in the past which is unhealthy. A more positive, generally happy outlook is what I want to achieve and practicing gratitude daily will hopefully help me to get there. I am trying meditation too which is a new thing for me.
Anyway have a great weekend and remember, no one wakens up and regrets not having drank the previous night. No hangover, stress, anxiety, worry or regrets. No booze for me!

Thanks Mags.

Well done to the various shot gun positions. :yup:

19 days is excellent Phil and all that positivity is great.

Me and the dogs are just back from our walkies. The sun was shining and the sky a beautiful blue.

Welcome, travelbug! Visit often, especially if you are struggling to stay sober this weekend! We can help!

I love this. Might print it up and put in on my refrigerator. It doesn't just apply to quitting drinking! I have some things I'd like to accomplish before I depart this life. I tend to spend too much time saying "someday." Just a small example: I want to start a hobby that could eventually turn into a way for me to make a little extra money so that retirement is a little more comfortable and so I have something satisfying to fill the time. I think I've landed on a good idea, but I need to start getting past the idea part. I want to learn to frame pictures, like the professionals do. It will take years for me to get good enough at it to offer it as a service to people for money, so I'd better get started. So far I have a book, and I have decided where in my house to set up a workshop. It's exciting, but a little daunting. But I'll never know if it's something I'm good at or like doing if I don't take the leap and start buying the equipment. Step one: get the room ready. Right now It's a storage room, basically. So that's what I'll be working on this weekend.

Hi travelbug, good to see you. :)

Marty, sounds like a fascinating hobby and potential business for retirement (or any time really).

Mags, thanks for that baby gorilla. Adorable.

On facebook there is a recent picture of Kitoko and Kwame (Kwame is the dad of Kitoko) that is so cute - here's a link from the local news TV station, I can't imbed the image:

Have a great Thursday, everyone. Welcome travelbug. Check in, MantaLady.

Walks and no TV is my plan ..maybe pay a bill or two. So fun!!

MLD51 11-05-2020 06:55 AM

So adorable, Bim. Thanks for posting that. I need smiles these days.

biminiblue 11-05-2020 07:03 AM

You're welcome. I really am going to have to walk through my fear and go to the zoo. Winter is always a quiet time there, so maybe I'll go meet the little tot.

Yesterday when I was on my neighborhood walk my thoughts wouldn't settle, so in my mind I walked all around the zoo, every exhibit and looked at all the many animals. It helped. I do that with my beach walk memories too. Haven't been there in seven months either. Narrow trails, too many people, etc.

MLD51 11-05-2020 07:18 AM

I have been hiking in a nearby state park after work the past 2 days. I can't go today because I have to give the man friend a ride somewhere, but I'll go again tomorrow. The weather will only be this good for a few more days before we slide into winter again. It really helps me to get out and get my heart pumping, release some endorphins, look at trees and blue sky, hear birds and squirrels getting ready for winter.

Mags1 11-05-2020 08:02 AM

Bim, I couldn’t get anything but today’s news, but I searched for them on Facebook and found this. Is this the photo you saw? :)
