Unhappy want my sober life back

Hello all, I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I am looking for help with my drinking. Since COVID-19 it has really increased. It's causes me to make dumb decisions, although I know I need help with my gambling as well, my drinking on enhances it. I need support.

Sorry to hear that -- it has been tough on everyone.

Stopping is hard, but not stopping can be harder.

For me it was all about the decision and the realisation that drinking was no longer an option.

Simple, but not easy. But easier than the alternative.

Welcome, and yes, the pandemic has been tough.

I'm glad you want to stop drinking. It usually helps to come up with a plan as to how you will stop drinking, and how you will stay sober. It's not easy but you can do it and it will be so worth it. Hopefully it will help you with your gambling issues, too.

You will find lots of support here.

Welcome to the family. I hope with our support you can stop drinking. It's hard at first but it gets better the longer you're sober. SR has helped me stay sober for almost 11 yrs and I know we can help you too.

Welcome deliverme.
I like what you typed “I need support”
After wrestling this disease for years when I finally threw up my hands and cried out for help that help came.
I had to be willing.

Deliver..... It must be tough to be dealing with 2 things at once. Sounds like you should start with sobriety though because to deal with your gambling, you’ll need to be clear headed and present.

I know all about the dumb decision-making. I often wake up the next day and ask myself "What was I thinking??". That's if I even remember what I was doing....

Nothing better than waking up clear-minded knowing no dumb decisions were made.

Hi,

Perhaps stopping drinking is the first smart decision. Just don't overthink it to death. You know what you need to do. So do it already.
Once you do - the rest of your decisions will likely be more lucid and reasonable as a result.

Hi deliverme and welcome. Tell us about your former sober life that you want back.

I hear you about drinking and stupid decisions. Although I wasn't a gambler, while drunk I became an online-shopper, gluttonous eater, drunk-texter, drunk-emailer, drunk-caller, drunk-driver, drunk-father, drunk-brawler and on and on. All of my decisions were bad when I was drinking.

You can put all of that behind you and get your sober life back. It is yours for the taking if you want to work at it.

Hey Deliverme...you are definitely in the right place here and among friends. I am still trying to work out what my life is, but that is WAY more exciting than drinking all the time

The first part of quitting an addiction is to truly want to quit. Many never reach that stage but you clearly have.

Now you just have to figure out how to do it and this board is a great place to start. Welcome!
