When the wind blows how strong are your roots, Weekender - Weekenders 09-12 October 2020
Welcome to the Weekenders
When the wind blows how strong are your roots? This thought came to me and I thought of my sobriety recovery in the same sense.
Trees with short, dead or rotted roots, or not planted and watered correctly, may not withstand a battering from a storm.
Knowing how to care for a tree, beginning with planting its roots, will surely give it a chance to grow and blossom.
Likewise, I feel the roots of the tree are like my tools for helping me in my growth of sobriety recovery.
By helping my roots to grow stronger I will be ensuring my recovery grows strong and sure.
We can do this together.
If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!) 🙂
Thanks Mags
Shotgun!
I definitely need to work on strengthening my sobriety roots. The AV came calling loudly again today.
Day 3 of yoga, walking and no sugar. Ahhhhh.
I was seriously thinking about Kaily’s chocolate cake today, and if push comes to shove with the AV, I’m going to be shovelling chocolate cake at the AV (ie down the cake hole) as fast as necessary. I wonder if I’m in sugar withdrawal? Hmmm I’m tired and sad and grumpy I know that.
But I’m still sober, and that’s a definite bonus

Willow my AV was loud too - after a while I ended up not feeding it at all - not even with chocolate cake and, in time, it died off?
Its like a tamagotchi - neglect it and it dies - which in this case is a good thing.

Thanks for all the kind words yesterday.
Willow I am not advocating chocolate cake, all it has done is start up my sugar and carb cravings again, not cured anything. Now I want more and more. Dee, as usual is right. I did it because I was kinda out of control, panicky, and sinking. I clutched at straws in desperation. A blackness came over me, it is hard to explain. I am still not right.
Let none of us be fallen trees this weekend.
Thanks Mags.

I'm in.
Thank you for a very appropriate opening post Mags. Weekends can be a mini storm, for the problem drinker and I expect that has been exasperated for some people by the additional free time as a result of the pandemic. The upside is that if you can get through the weekend the regular weekdays seem a little easier.
Welcome to Weekenders Bent4455!
Van Halen were not my cup of tea but this is a fantastic track and it would be rude not to play it. Seems he was one of us too. This'll wake you up.

I love anything that uses trees as examples, thank you Mags.
The other super cool thing about deep roots and tall trees is that when there is a storm, the trees bend. Palm trees come to mind in hurricanes, but I love to go out and watch the 200 foot tall Douglas firs dance in a windstorm, it's amazing that they bend so much without snapping.
We bend with the troubles but don't break, sober friends.
I have a 100% Success Rate of making it through bad days drinking or not, so no need to add alcohol.
RIP Eddie Van Halen
..and yeah, sugar withdrawal. Restless, irritable, grumpy, headachy. First time I went low-carb I thought I had the actual flu. Turns out it's a thing.
