It's good to know that you're still around, MoS, and still living a sober life.

You've helped plenty of people here over the years, and it shows in your personal growth.

Congratulations

Wow Myth! That is amazing. 8 years sounds like such a long time, but I imagine once you've mentally made that break it goes by much quicker. Thanks for the motivation!

Hey Myth,

I remember your screen name from when you first began posting here, back when I had another screen name.

It's amazing to see your success, well done!

So pleased to read you post Myth, humungous congratulations on your 8 years! 🏆😎 🏆!

I'm another one to add to your list of SR members you've guided towards sobriety. I recall landing in SR Secular, with questions about AVRT and there you were, spreading your experience!

Thanks MoS.

That’s kind of scary, though, that it still sounds like you get urges. It shows our brains have been rewired in the past and will stay that way. I’m 21 1/2 months sober and get urges every week or so, but they’re minuscule compared to the monsters of old. The even scarier thing is if this brain rewiring won’t change, the triggers are still there waiting for a drink, even years later. If I drank a glass of wine right now, I’d be on a bottle a day within a week. It’s slightly cruel, but just avoiding alcohol is an easy way to fix that.

I'll bet 8 1/2 years ago the idea of 8 years of sobriety sounded like some far fetched fantasy. Think of forgetting your birthday as progress. You're focusing on life and no longer counting days. Some might disagree. Heck, I might disagree with that claim a week from now. But either way, congratulations are in order.

So Congratulations.

Really I almost never get urges to drink, maybe once every year or two and they're not very strong. Kind of a reflex, like- oh, I'm bored, I should get some wine. No, it's not the urges so much as the fallout from years of drinking. My life is pretty good by most standards but I can't help but think how much better it could be if I hadn't wasted half of it. It's water under the bridge but the thoughts do creep into my mind occasionally, especially as I get older. I'm 51 and some of the chances I wasted probably won't come around again.

Still, I wouldn't have regrets if I kept drinking because I'd be dead!
