From obese drunk to 21 months sober
As it says, I was a drunk up until the end of 2018. I was about 40lbs overweight, desperately unfit and had all the aches and pains of a heavy drinker with daily hangovers and unable to focus on anything at work. Oh and no hobbies except drinking every night.
I had cut down throughout 2018 which definitely helped me to finally quit, but I just can’t have imagined ever quitting when I was drinking tonnes of wine in 2017. There were the usual excuses about work or boredom making me drink and all that nonsense.
So just a short post (by my standards 😄 ) to say don’t give up. Don’t aim for two or three weeks and then relapse. Go for the rest of your life. It can be done, and life will be more amazing that you’d ever imagine.

Thanks all. Hopefully my post (as well as many other positive stories on here) shows it’s possible to quit no matter how down you may feel now or however impossible quitting may seem. I never saw myself quitting in my very dark days of 2017. Believe in yourselves, avoid “rewards” (the drinker’s biggest mistake) and those cravings will fade.
But after 21 months, am I cured? Never. I can never drink moderately in this lifetime. If I try, I’ll be drinking 1 or 2 bottles a wine a night within a couple of weeks. Why many ex-drinkers fail to understand this is very sad.

Thanks for the post.
The sober shine seems to periodically wear off of me. That is the addiction morphing. It will do that until I die.
I don't talk about it except here, but I am an addict for life.
I tell everyone else that I changed my lifestyle.
My wife asked me to drink a shot of soju at her birthday celebration. I said oh no. Don't want that in my system.
She doesn't remember, sort of glad about that, how bad I was 5 years ago. How I would be passed out by 6 pm on Saturday, because I started drinking at 9 am.
Thanks for the therapy.
