Good to see you VMan!

OK this video is at X4 speed and it it still kinda uneventful but I like the fact that this really cool Gundam robot is 18 metres/59 feet tall. Imagine one of them enforcing a lockdown.

Gotta love Japan. All the rest of us just use digital monsters. That's a cool robot.

What's its use? I mean, besides enforcing lockdown.

Well, well.
It's almost another Thursday again.
Tempus fugit.
I signed on sporadically for a few minutes here and there but missed posting the Weekenders.
Work has been extremely busy. Work, sleep, etc. repeat.

In any event, thanks Mags!
I spent this past weekend and many more, finally completing Jobu's transfer into a 40-gallon tank.
Lots of glitches abounded. Water everywhere and towels, a grand mess, but it was worth the final outcome.
Once I finally put him in, he was so happy, he immediately christened it with frog poop.
A great jumpstart for the filter's biological media.

belated Happy Equinox - thanks for the reminder bim.

are people panic-buying again Kaily? I really hope we don't have to have another full lockdown - I'm not sure closing pubs at 10pm is going to be enough on its own though.

Jobu's is a lucky boy.

People are panic buying a bit, which will obviously have a knock on effect and we all start doing it. I genuinely needed toilet rolls, so did most people apparently - some needed a lot more than others. I don't know about pasta (a panic buyers favourite) as I don't eat it.

This is a really good Pro/Con discussion of a scientific Nature with lots of research cites regarding food addiction and discussing how to tease it out or verify its veracity.

I used to get into long online discussions about food addiction, this really discusses it nicely.

I fall on the side of yes, Virginia, there really is some biology involved in compulsive eating - however both sides are discussed rationally here and there is a discussion of how to go forward in proving it. That's always the biggest sticking point, that science doesn't have hard answers. Yet. With the Human Genome Project, I think we're going to see all kinds of genetic links:

I skimmed it Bim. Now my mind is boggled . Good article though.

I know if I eat chocolate or cake I want more. If I leave it alone altogether it's easier. It is not like the sheer compulsion and absolute lack of control I had with alcohol. It is an annoyance.

I can go days without eating sweets. But once I have a piece of chocolate, it's like the floodgates open and it's hard to stop. That's a lot like how I was with drinking. I didn't drink every day. But almost all the time when I did drink I had a very hard time limiting myself to a reasonable quantity. So I have begun to really be concerned about the sugar. I think I'm using it a lot like I used alcohol.

Yeah, sugar. I do it with wheat, too.

Sugar is bad though. The argument is that it's the hyper-palatability of baked goods and or the fat/sugar or fat/sugar/salt combo that triggers the dopamine reward system just like a DOC. I feel like it's just the sugar for me, but I'm willing to expand my understanding of what's really happening. It just feels like sugar is the problem to me.

Alcohol has that extra little added "bonus" of actual traceable brain alteration. The other stuff is very hard to study. Carbs/sugar also works on the serotonin/neurotransmitter system - added calming and soothing for those like me who are prone to depression.

Good to see you Lunar.

Sugar and fat are a definite concern. Like others I am not content with a small piece of chocolate or cake. We are not alone in that though.
