Free as a bird - Weekenders 11 - 14 September 2020
Video runs 1:52, "Oranges and Lemons". I remember playing this as a party game, a thousand years or so ago
edit to add: a link with How to play the game; and a version with more and older lyrics:

Good to see you Snazzy Dresser!
I opened a can of worms with that Nursery Rhyme. It is MUCH longer than the abridged version. It can be seen written down on the side of the Bow Bell pub in Whitchapel, just over half a mile from me. Here it is along with an explanation. Interesting stuff...

I remember the 'oranges and lemons' rhyme from when it was mentioned in Orwell's book 1984. Didn't know anything about the history of it til now.
I must say that I really like being free as a bird from the grips of alcoholism. I look back at my life then and see it wasn't really a 'life', just an existence. So glad I'm free of that now.

Hiya Weekenders
Saou, thanks for the link. I learn such interesting topics here on Weekenders. I think quite a few of our nursery rhymes depict some tragedy. I wonder why
‘Ring around the Rosie, pocketful of posie’ was about the bubonic plague. Delightful.
See you later. Take care and be safe. xx

Hey there fellow weekenders! I hope you all had a great weekend!
Mine was a tough one, but in the end it all went GREAT!
Party at Friday night. Beer and wine available. Not for me!
The entire Saturday was spent with friends and chilled wine. I drank a whole liter of chilled tea. It was a hot day.
Sunday was spent at home resting.
It feels great to achieve 2 entire weeks sober! The longest stretch ever for me!

Well done, Renegade!
Kaily, please check in.
A COVID rhyme - it needs to be something sinister - “Crappy Old Virus Is Dying” in the refrain, perhaps.
Wish I could have sent yesterday’s heavy rains to California and the PNW.
Have a great day, all.

Congratulationson two weeks Renegade! Saturday and Sunday without a hangover are one immediate payback for not drinking.
Trying to find a word that rhymes and scans with Hydroxychloroquine won't be easy...
Two weeks is awesome, Renegade!
I went to the shellfish farm this morning because I was on-call for work. But they have closed for the day because of smoke. The smoke layer may be somewhat thinner today (I can see the sun), but it still seems as dense.
Our cats have not cooperated at all with the "stay indoors" order. Other than both of them throwing up the first morning of smoke (which prompted us to try to keep them in), they seem fine but perhaps less active than usual.
There once was a virus Corona
That made us all stay at home-a
People would ask,
"Need I a mask?"
Yes, but due to the smoke aroma.

Hey, Coldfusion, have you watched that movie, "Adrift"? I watched it last night and it was really good (IMNSHO)
It's streaming on Netflix right now. The woman who wrote the book and the central character in this true-life adventure drama lives in the San Juans now.

Morning Weekenders
I’ve been watching a new tv series on 4 Walter presents on catchup. ‘23 Cases’. Pretty good. Left it open for another series though.
Kaily and MantaLady, hope you’re ok. xx
Bim, I hope the air quality is getting better round your way.
Looks like we’re having another wave of the virus. The figures are climbing considerably. Take care and be safe everyone.
For me, being sober has kept me grounded. If I’d been drinking I’d have made this virus into a nightmare for me which would have stressed me out. The virus is bad enough and being sober I can be sensible, not make it any worse than it is.
See you later folks. xx
