20 days and books

Hi all.
I quit drinking last fall. Went pretty well. Then early this year I almost died. Had to have some surgeries. Recovery was a real bitch, and I started drinking again, because I was scared of opioid.
Now I'm 20 days sober and reflecting taught me one thing: The kind of drinking I miss is the kind that I've never been capable of (social, moderation, etc). The kind of maintenance drinking that I am good at, I don't miss.
Been reading "The surprising joys of being sober". Good book, alas from a very different perspective than mine. Reads like it was written for extroverts. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool INTP introvert. I don't go to bars or clubs, and i have never given an iota of a @#$% what others think of me. I abhor groups of people and never had a whole lot of use for people, period. I prefer trees, dogs, books and music. A lot of this book is all about partying 4 nights a week, etc.
Anyone have a good suggestion for a positive book that's a little more up introverts ' alley? Thanks.

A couple of the introverts I’ve known in recovery tend to enjoy the AA big book. The one fellow has become quite knowledgeable about AA and it’s history.

'Drinking:A Love Story' by Caroline Knapp may resonate with you.

Jonathon Livingston Seagull

It's an analogy as is Hinds Feet on High Places.

Those are two of my favorite books of all time. They speak to following your heart and doing what's right BY you - even if and when you have to do it alone.

I agree with Dee. Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp is my all-time favourite.

And, do check out our Book List, compiled by our members:

It's been years since I was in early sobriety, but one thing I did was read a ton of books. "Dry" a memoir written by American writer Augusten Burroughs was a favorite. Go on Amazon and read reviews of all of the recovery books, you will likely find something that you identify with. I bought books for my Kindle, saved $ over hardcover and got immediate delivery.

Hi, I don't know if these would be especially for introverts, but these are the alcoholic recovery memoirs I thought were worth reading.
Guts..by Kristen Johnson
Saturation....by Jennifer Place
A sick sense of satisfaction....Mathew LaRue
My own worst enemy... Ronnie Steele
Parched..Heather King
One little speck...Gaynor Goodchild
The girl behind the painted smile...Catherine Lockwood
Drunk mom...Jowita Bydlowska
And I agree Dry by Augusten Burrows was really good
