Newbie checking in
Just thought I’d introduce myself, and get some things off my chest.
Alcohol has been a serious problem in my life for 6 years. There’s been countless times I’ve attempted to get well on my own, but it never happens.
I can’t describe what this poison has stolen from me, but the last few years have been getting worse. From two hospital admissions this year to blacking out in the street wearing one shoe and waking up with a black eye. This nightmare has to end.
I have an assessment with an addiction specialist, and have also been speaking to a therapist today about my drinking, depression and anxiety today.
I don’t have the mental or physical strength to do this on my own any more, and I’m just hopeful for a future of sobriety. This forum looks a good place to surround myself with people who struggle like myself.
Here’s to my new beginning, one day at a time!

Hear Hear Jasl!! To new beginnings!! Also here's to not having to struggle anymore. The sober life is so quiet, simple and healthy. No drinking to plan for, no hangovers to plan for, no hospital stays anymore, no mysterious injuries, no drunken behavior you cannot remember, no drunken behavior that you unfortunately DO remember, and the list goes on and on. Peaceful and quiet describe my daily life and it never gets old. Waking up feeling good never gets old.
Welcome, Jasl. There's lots of great support here from people who are in/have been in the same boat. Keep posting as much as you can, it really does help. Waking up sober and healthy is an amazing feeling.
Welcome, Jasl; glad you found us. It is good to see that you are taking a multi—faceted approach.
I have found living in sobriety and recovery an exponentially better way to live. Hope that you do, also.
Again, welcome.

Welcome to the family. I got sober over 10 yrs ago and don't regret a minute of it. And never once have I woken up and wished I had drank the night before.
There's lots of great support here. Use it to help you get sober for good.

I like how you say "This nightmare has to end." Exactly how I feel about my drinking days, it was like I was in a horror movie every day, what the hell had I gotten myself into! And to think I was letting myself participate in the horror by continuing to drink. So glad I wised up and got sober, my life movie has been a lot better ever since.
Great to have you here on SR and sober, Jasl20. Waking up from that drinking nightmare will be worth every ounce of effort you put into it, that's for sure.

Great to meet you, Jasl. Be proud of yourself for coming to this conclusion. You can reclaim your life and get free for good.
I think you'll find SR a big help, in addition to the other action you're taking. It's a place where you can talk freely about what's going on. I had no one in my life to confide in - they were all social drinkers who didn't have a clue about alcohol dependence.
Welcome - we are here to encourage you.

Welcome to SR. This is a great place to get help. Read as much as you can on here and stay close. Being sober is hard at first but very possible with the right mindset and tools. Work on a plan that will keep you connected to the way you are feeling today. I’ve been sober for 7 months now and I would never go back to the way things were. Having the weight of alcoholism lifted is a blessing beyond measure. It took time and effort but so so worth it. You can do this!
