My Drinking Friend

My friend and I decided to have dinner today to celebrate our birthdays. She chose the day at a Mexican restaurant which is perfect for me! I went to the web menu and was trying to find something that looked good. On one of the pages there was this big banner "Drinks 1/2 off on Tuesday's from 11am to 10pm.

The problem is she does like to drink. A situation very similar happened a few months ago. We met at the restaurant and the first thing she asked the server is: was happy hour yet.

So the "guts" of my problem. I was going to offer to pay her bill, but I really don't want to pay for her drinks, which would likely be $25 ( only the best tequila for her). Ugh...maybe I'm overthinking it.

Suggestions? Thanks SR Family

You are WAY overthinking it. Pay for your own bill. That's what my friends and I do when we go out.

Spot on Nathan. I overthink everything...I must figure out a way to just let some things go.
Thank's Nathan!

I agree with Nathan. Pay for your own bill and let her pay for hers.

Thumbs up

To inject a little psychology into the mix (I'm no psychologist, I'm a writer damnit!) could you be projecting a wee bit?

Like others have said you are way overthinking it. I struggle with constantly overthinking everything. That’s probably why we liked being able to shut the brain off with booze? It works until it doesn’t.

Separate cheques and getting home sober - great stuff
A Mexican place without a liquor licence could be even better?

My guess is that she absolutely will not mind paying for her own drinks. If you are feeling generous, just say "I got the tacos, you got the tequila!! Happy birthday!!"

I've actually tried that, Dee. She goes for the margaritas. The places I've mentioned have better food and no alcohol. She told me she didn't like the food. Every time.

What I'm seeing is a person who's more concerned over paying a bill then taking a drink. #lifegoals!

If this person had a weight problem and had desert or if you had a weight problem and they had desert, would you be having this same thought/conversation?

Not being negative just looking at it a different ways is all.

I like this A LOT....I used this back in 2005 when I was in "my head" about me not being able to drink but I had to attend work functions and other situations where there was lots of drinking....What ended up working for me was exactly this thought process that you mention.

I would tell myself...its ok...I'm allergic to alcohol (even thou I'm surely not...LOL)....but it made me feel better to say to myself...Im allergic to it and they are not.....It really worked for me.
