Thanks everyone.
Ending day 4.... it was a tough day. My boss didn’t like a marketing product I created. Trying not to take it personally. I usually drink on it and blame him and get salty... but I’m trying to face criticism better. Yeah... he coulda said it more kindly or constructively, but I must choose to react constructively too. And he is right. It’s not the right fit. Still stings though.

just got done feeding my spouse through a feeding tube that was placed Monday. Throat cancer diagnosed in April/May. It’s been a tough week all around. Once the tube got put in, I stopped drinking. Can’t risk the safety. Can’t be in an emergency situation drunk. Can’t add stress to the situation.

you all are a fun group to be with. I’m glad I came in this weekend.

I will try not to be a downer all weekend. It’s nice to get stuff out though. Not many folks around who want to hear it.

i will try and spend more time here tomorrow. I got the lawn mowed.

for now I gotta get some rest.

thanks SR and thanks everyone.

Welcome to the Weekender, BEELS, copperfield and anxiousrock.

Being able to be up early on a Saturday morning is such a relief. Even when not hungover, some prefer to sleep in and that’s fine as well.

Welcome Beels, congrats on the 4 days and also welcome to any newcomers reading

6:30 Saturday morning here in the UK, my second consecutive sober weekend (day 11). It's so much better sitting here enjoying a coffee completely clear-headed. Why did I think drinking from 3pm on a Friday until 10am on a Saturday was "fun"..then feeling so ill I had to sleep off the rest of the weekend. Weekend after weekend wasted. Brains are weird 🤣

Sending positive vibes to all other weekenders

Morning Weekenders

Welcome to Weekenders Beels! You’re doing great. Moan all you like, we ‘get’ what you mean,

Congratulations on 7 days copperfield.

Owen, I was the same, wasted all weekend and as much as I could in between work too. Glad I’m out of those crazy times.

Saou, it was scorching here too. Hopefully slightly cooler today. I was armed with my cold hot water bottles and cool pads when I went to bed.
Are you allowed to wear shorts in the workplace or do you have aircon.

See you later, take care, keep safe. xx

Hi friends - I'm in for my 82nd weekend sober! Thanks Mags for the thread.

How nice it is to wake up on a Saturday morning not hungover, not craving a drink and actually looking forward to a productive weekend. I'll be cooking for my housemates today to celebrate my first pay cheque from my new job. All possible, and only possible, thanks to sobriety.

Other than that all is going well. In applying for my job I remembered that I had never bothered to graduate from Uni all those years ago despite having passed the final exams, so will be sorting out an graduation in absentia in the coming week. Letters after my name will be nice. Next thing will be to look for a professional body to join if all goes well.

Anyway, welcome beels, copperfield and anxiousrock and owen. To any other newcomers reading do join us this weekend. Stay close everyone. Warm wishes to all. Forwards.

Hi owen, I'm thinking of a nice big lasagne, home made with no packet sauces, and I certainly won't be adding any red wine... Off to the supermarket now before it gets too crowded!

A fine morning here in London.

Best wishes to your spouse Beels, that is a tough thing to endure.Do not worry about being a "downer," we are here to help each other through hard times.

Handsome pooch Captain, what is his or her name?

Good to see you Copperfield, anxiousrock!

Congratulations on your first paycheck forwards.

We can wear shorts at work Mags although the part I work in is air conditioned.

This is the northern side of an up market housing estate called The Barbican, the whole area was flattened by bombing in WW2 and this was one of Britain's first post war developments although the last of it was not finished until the 1970s

Morning all!

Welcome BEELS, Coldfusion, copperfield, anxiousrock and to anyone else new / newish to the Weekenders thread.

It's 2 weeks sober for me today and by a quirk of the calendar (because I stopped drinking on Friday 17 July making my sober date Saturday 18th July) this is my third weekend sober.

Good photo sao. I remember visiting the Barbican and thinking how brutal the architecture looked. The estate is part of the now long abandoned pedway scheme which was meant to seperate pedestrians from road traffic in the City of London through the use of elevated walkways. The pedway scheme was designed in the aftermath of World War II and was totally abandoned, with the schee nowhere near completion, in the mid 1980s.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_o..._Pedway_Scheme

I once tried to walk around as much of the walkways as was possible. Because it was never completed some walkways suddenly stop at a dead end. Usually a brick wall or part of the building next door. A quirky and strange part of post WW2 London history.

Hi everyone, I'm in, thanks Mags. My 4th weekend in a row sober. Will be watching British GP without beer for the first time in decades.
