1 month sober sleeping issues
Hello All, first time poster long time troll. I've been a heavy drinker for years and decided to end it. So far so good, I know its still early (1 month) but glad to say i haven't had any sever withdrawal symptoms just night sweats. But my question is this: Is it normal to be a month in and sleeping 5 hours or less? My sleep schedule was always short but now that i'm getting healthy I'm looking at this too. I've tried melatonin and it doesn't seem to get me past 5 hours. Ambien is out causes sleep walking and i don't like the idea of getting any prescription drugs.
I exercise daily and eat healthy if this matters.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks and hope everyone is doing is well
Maybe I need to move this to another thread?

Congrats on the 1 Month!
I'm a touch over a year in and my sleep still sinks but part of it maybe hereditary because I know my siblings who don't have the same issues with drinking have had sleep issues also.
I accept it [Right or Wrong] and tell my self there is 24 Hrs. in a day to get my sleep in.

I’m close to 5 months and still experience sleep issues. Like C0nt0ls said it might be hereditary. I rarely sleep a solid night, usually waking up a few times. Sleeping past 6:00 a.m. is late for me. But I have no problem sneaking in a nap during the day so that helps. For me, getting less sleep sober beats getting 9 hours of passing out while drinking.

It takes a good few months for your body to adjust. It’s a myth that alcohol makes us sleep better. The time between you falling asleep and waking up might be down, but the quality of that sleep will almost certainly be higher. Unless you’re falling asleep during the day, in which case maybe mention it to your GP, I wouldn’t worry.
Oh and huge well done on quitting for good 👍

I have discovered through my fitbit, that I follow a pattern: I regularly sleep between 5 and 6 hours. Many times less than 5 hours, but when that happens I am properly exhausted until I get a wonderful 7hours + night and recover. I know the theory is that sleep cannot be 'recovered' but this is how it works for me. Sleeping less than 6 hours means I am awake for many hours, but also that this is how my body works when I am not poisoning it. I would much prefer 8 hours instead but it is what it is.

Not that I know your genetics but again like people here said it could be, some people biologically just need few hours of sleep while others need 9hr, if you get a good amount of rem cycles in and are asleep between 10pm and 2am (when highest amount of your hgh is released) personally I wouldn't fret. But you know you body best so I hope it works out and you get some answers!!
