Fatigue Day 7 for me. I got up early and went for a 6km run. Came back and did some bits around the house and now I'm laying in bed wanting a nap. I got plenty of sleep last night. For the last week I've been needing afternoon sleeps, some lasting up to 4 hours. Is this still normal? How long can I expect this to go on for? I guess I'm worried I'm allowing myself to be lazy and don't know whether to embrace it and sleep because my recovering body still needs it or whether I should fight it and get up! Cheers |
Get every minute of sleep you can bodhi01. If you are exercising and not feeling depressed, enjoy all the sleep you can. Lots of great healing going on. I think it can take a year for our bodies to heal from what we've done to them. |

Congratulations on 7 days! My recovery sleep schedule was rough at least the first 3-4 weeks. Then things got better. The body was still detoxing and so I struggled for sleep leaving me fatigued in that way. So kinda the opposite problem, I understand. Just roll with the healing. |
Bod - I am on day 140+ and I still get really tired. I enjoy the thought that my body is healing and I go with the flow as much as I can (lockdown has really helped with this!). I exercise first thing in the morning, eat half decent and if I need a sleep I get my head down. Sleeping is one of the biggest gifts of my sobriety, I absolutely love going to bed sober :) I also used food and my bed as my first and last defence against cravings...when cravings came I would eat something sweet; if I thought I could not resist them I went to bed. No way a can of cider was going to find me in there. Childish? Yes. Effective? Very |
Needing to sleep loads is totally normal and a good idea! I still do; nap and lay in often. I think it is all part of looking after yourself just now. |
Thanks everyone. I literally slept all day. I really couldn't fight it. Wide awake now which is a little annoying but I'll soon be off again. Day 7/week 1 of being sober coming to a swift close. |
it was normal for me Bodhi - sometimes still is :) Congrats on 7 days~! D |
Bodhi, I think it's important to listen to your body and if your body craves rest, then go for it. :) |
Totally normal. No need to fight it. One of the joys of sobriety is learning to listen to the body and build a 2-way communication channel with it. |
I agree with everyone else. If you are tired, sleep away! One thought...have you had any blood work done? Might do that just to make sure you aren’t deficient in iron etc. Congratulations on 7 days! |
I mean, it's normal to me. I exercise 3 times a day and some days I would never make it without a 90 minute nap. If you're still having withdrawal symptoms, I'm not surprised you're napping longer! |
Day Nine here and definitely feeling fatigued, especially in the early afternoon for some reason. It might have something to do with the heat -- very hot here these days. |
congratulations on the week! |
Thanks for the support everyone. Day 9 in 1.15 hours. Not that I'm watching the clock ;-) Massive afternoon nap again today but then up and at a nice long walk so not completely fatigued, just need these healing periods. No pains in my side for 2 days now so that's positive. |
