We are nearly the same vintage Scott. I am 54, quit 7 months ago, but drank hard for 30 years with no breaks, the last 10 insanely hard. Thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad we both found SR.

Hi Scott. Just catching up on your thread here. I agree that you should post regularly and join the July class thread if you haven't already.

Thanks Zebra. I will do that.

That made a huge difference for me. I joined the August 2009 Sobriety group and that was one of the keys in helping me to finally get, and stay, sober. I passed the 10 year sobriety mark last spring, which is amazing to me since I used to count my sober time in hours. And I still have contact on Facebook with a couple of people from the August 2009 group.

Scott, I'd like to share with you what really helped me. The 2 things that enabled me to drop my addiction: 1. turning my life over to my Higher Power 2. Becoming more loving and helpful towards people.

Everyday I reaffirm that I am giving my life over to God, that I want him to come into my life, that I want to have a relationship with Him.

Becoming more loving started by posting positive messages on post it notes and leaving them in bathrooms and other public places. And then everyday I think of what I can to help someone that day or make their life easier. It has produced amazing results for me.
