Today I did something differently and It helped enormously. I've been taking B vit supplements which is loaded with (B6,B12) normally I take it about dinner time but today I took my tablets first thing in the morning and today was the first day of 2020 I didn't have an enormous energy dip between 5pm-8pm. I'm hoping the supplements in the morning will be a game changer because I can deal with not drinking, I struggle with the impacts of liver damage. Feeling optimistic for the first time in about 15 months.

Day 19 done.

Same time tomorrow.

GOOD FOR YOU! YAY!
I take my supplement in the AM due to Vit B complexes giving energy and I don't want to be awake when I am trying to sleep! I think you have made a good switch there.

Keep on keeping on, Alba!

Another sober day today for day 20.

Can't lie my energy levels were low all day today. Took my tablets first thing in morning but didn't work today.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Day 21, I didn't get up till 12 noon today so it's been a better day.

I remember reading something on here a few years ago saying "I remember when I got wee red dots on my skin from my liver not fuctioning. More than anything in the world I wish I'd stopped them" It would have been easier then. The further you get into liver damage the more it takes hold. Booze works as the easy option to escape.

Back again tomorrow.

Day 22.

Good day today. I've been sober for 3 weeks but my programme isn't AA it's about health and fitness and I've done nothing in that regard.

Tomorrow I work out for 1 hour regardless at night. I view exercise as a drug, one I want to get hooked on.

I consider my daily 1-2 hour walk to be my very own 12000+ step therapy, works like nothing else and relatively easy to do once you get into the daily habit swing. Also you can't beat the price cause it's free you know. "The moon belongs to everyone; the best things in life are free."

100% went out for 13,000 steps which isn't much but it feels like an accomplishment.

I was doing this in the summer months but I need this everyday. The weather in Scotland is fine it's just dark cold and rainy which isn't an excuse.

Another day done. Overall mood/feeling still 2/10

Day 24 done. Quite proud to get to this figure again. I think it's the third time in 20 years I've hit day 24.

Day 27 done.

Todays recycling day and that's been two (fortnightly) pick-ups where I've used a *normal/acceptable/same as the neighbours* amount of boxes instead of my usual wall of boxes full of empty beer bottles. A glass explosion when dropped into the bin truck.

Shopping is easy too - I go down at night and my trolley features a wide mix of products instead of a loaf of bread, a packet of crisps and 12 large bottles on beer - I know I only can drink 9 then I'll drop but I need a 3 bottle buffer to calm the AV's fear of running short.

I recall my grandmother was fond of the phrase "early to bed, early to rise, keeps you healthy, wealthy and wise". My neighbour directly across has his lights off by 9:30pm he's up around 6 for a run before his day starts. He's far more presentable and clothes himself better far better. He's about 6 stone lighter. I wanna be like him, and I will, unless I go back on the beer.

Stopping drinking in theory is such an easy thing. You just don't do it. In practise stopping after you start is bloody tough. Talking on the phone last week to my dad and he was talking about George Best ( excellent footballer, alcoholic) and how he lost his marriage after going on a 27 day bender. My dad asking 'how could anyone do that'? I agreed with him but in my mind I was thinking quite easily, dad!

Have a sober Friday everyone. I'll try and log in tomorrow night.

George Best was such a legend, such a talent but such a drunk as well. Charisma to spare too, I hear they called him the 5th Beatle! I only learned about him a few years ago having come to the whole football/soccer thing late in life. Best's story reminds me a little of Mickey Mantle's, an American baseball star from the 50s and 60s, important cultural icon who was also a dedicated drunk.

You're doing great, Alba.

Day 28. Feeling horrible in every single way: anxious, tight back, sciatic pains, extreme tiredness all day (only managed 2 1/4) hours sleep last night. I went for a dark walk tonight but made me feel only a wee bit more depressed. I must battle on, remain sober, eat well and better times will come. Not really looking forward to Christmas.
