Is this normal?
Hi guys
I'm new here but really want to find out if this is normal. On the 28th June 2020 I will be one year sober, not a drop of alcohol. This is the longest stint in roughly 20 years. I've also heavily abused most drugs in this time. Anyway, for the last couple of weeks I have been overwhelmed with a feeling that can only be compared to MDMA or the side effects of SSRIs. The tingling/electricity feeling all over my body. It's unbearable to be honest. I'm praying that this is actually my brain finally getting some kind of natural seretonin back. God knows the Anhedonia of the last decade has been enough to drive me suicidal. Has anyone else experienced this in their recovery, any idea what's going on?
Peace

To be honest, I don't know what some of your abbreviations mean, but I will tell you that recovery is not a steady progression toward good mental and physical health. You will have bad days, and one of the big tricks in success is understanding that you will have to deal with situations that you didn't see coming. The correct way to handle it is doing so without drinking or using. You will gain confidence from doing that. You will lose confidence if you don't. And don't downplay the importance of confidence. Gaining some is what you need right now.
Congratulations on one year of recovery. That's great.
I'd suggest talking to your doctor since the issues you describe are unbearable. You deserve to get some answers and some relief.

Alchemist I totally agree with others. If you have almost a year of sobriety you just cannot nescesarily attribute it to withdrawals or related to drugs or alcohol. Especially if it didn{t present itself earlier in your sobriety.
Hi alchemist
I’m familiar with the feeling with regards SSRIs many years ago but I’ve not felt that otherwise in recovery. Anything unbearable I think you owe it to yourself to get it checked out?
Hope you get some answers - congrats on your year!

My experience with booze recovery is similar and it has played out for well over 5 years.
Each day things improved. Something like 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
I believe the recovery from rx drugs is worse.
I am not a Dr, but I get the impression that things have continually gotten better for you.
Based on that, id continue to stay super clean.
Anything else would likely lead to a deeper hell on earth than where i started.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

I have had the tingling and electricity feeling withdrawing from either SSRIs or even alcohol, I know what they are.
But 1 year sober, if they are recurrent, not sure that is normal. I would have similar felling to a lessser degree when my sleep is out of whack. you may wanna see a doctor/psychiatrist.
