I'm losing it....follow up, what is "it".

I'm at a breaking point. We were not meant to live like this.

Jeff, we're not meant to live this way, but we have to, for now.

What can you do to help yourself feel better? Are you able to get out of the house? Do you have projects at home to work on?

Change is really hard, but we're doing it, Jeff.

It's so difficult for so many right now, especially those with underlying mental health issues in normal times. Al I keep saying to myself is drinking will make it worse not better. Each day I make a plan to do small things and then tick them off the list. I find structure helps. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

"We were not meant to live like this."

There are
87,774 victims of covid in the US alone that would live like this if given the option. They can't. So we have to.

I understand what you mean. However, I think about my grandfather who fought in world war 2 and feel silly for being asked to sit on the sofa watching movies for a month. I'm not being asked to fight the Nazis. I am going squirrely but I will survive.

Hey, Jeff. I am thinking of you; it is extremely hard, but we're all in this sobriety thing together, and we can't let this temporary circumstance define us. I pray you find some peace and stability in this turmoil. You are strong. You can prevail.

Hi Jeff
Have you had any thoughts on what is "it" that you are losing?
This SR family are really supportive, so call out if there is anything you need to 'talk' about.
Just words, but the really awful moments do go away if you can battle through minute by minute.
You are not alone in this struggle - whether it be staying sober, hating the COVID situation, stress and anxiety about all sorts of things, mental anguish, etc. Everything has a solution. Patience in finding it or waiting for the problem to pass is a big challenge, but from what I hear, it is worth battling on as it will pass.

i'm not sure what you mean by "live like this" - you mean not being at home with our families? if one believes in evolution, once upon a time we lived in small groups and didn't venture out too far out of the shelter. according to maslow's hierarchy of needs our first two BASIC needs are:
Physiological Needs - Food, Water, Warmth, Rest
Safety Needs - Security, Safety

it sounds like you are hunting up an excuse to drink again. and that is all it will be...an excuse.

for some perspective - i have been on a remote work mandate since March 5th. yes, i am beyond fortunate to have a job that allows me to do so - i get that. i have also worked for the same institution for 27 years now. two days ago, us remote workers were told to expect to STAY home indefinitely.......or until JANUARY. at least another 8 months. today is day 72 at home.

as there is a global pandemic that is not in any way under control, IMHO being AT HOME is the safest place for me to be and assures that i am not contributing to the problem. i don't NEED to go to the mall. or the casino. or even get a haircut. i have no desire to sit in a restaurant or on an airplane or a bus. i have shelter, warmth, food, running water, companionship and a dog. my offspring is a safe as she can be, following all the safety protocols.

what is it that you think you need that you do not already have?

Hey Jeff - what Up???

Yeah, wearing a mask and stay at home orders suck - there are worse things. I watched a documentary on WWII yesterday - makes this look like a picnic.

Did the job work out?

Those who have been trudging to work, pretending they’re ok, but actually risking their lives every day, would love to be so bored we just can’t take it anymore.

I understand we all have our stuff to deal with, but please, unless you are actually dealing with the current **** storm we are in, count your blessings and think long and hard before complaining about being home.

I so wish I could stay home and stay safe.

Hi Jeff, what's got you? If you are willing to talk about what's bugging you, it would help me. I know when I get like that talking to others helps me to marshal my strength so that I can confront the "it", look it in the eye, and walk through it. When I do that I always discover that I have way more strength than I give ever myself credit for. I believe you are the same way and will come to the same conclusion. We are here for you, there is strength in numbers. Lets talk and walk through whatever "it" is together.

Jeff, I hope you are ok. I definitely understand your frustration, worry and anger. I do. While I don't entirely agree with the comparisons, as we all have our own struggles and are entitles to feel however we feel, I will say that you in the US have it a bit better than many other places. I don't say that to make you feel bad or guilty about what you are feeling, but just as a reminder to be thankful for what you do have. We here in Italy were finally allowed outside of our homes for a walk, bike ride or exercise on May 4th, after 2 months of complete lockdown. This was major for us and our mental health. In India the police are beating people with sticks if they are found out of their homes. Not to even get into the situation in China....
It is hard for all of us. We ALL have a right to our feelings and this is a difficult time for everyone. But we must remember to be thankful for what we do have and can do and try our best to maintain some semblance of routine and positive activity.
I was going crazy, I live alone, had no one to visit, no physical or personal contact with anyone, but found that keeping a routine helped. I naturally wake early, about 6:30 or 7, so I continue to get out of bed, make my coffee, go outside to feed my cat and have a smoke with my coffee, then after about 30 minutes of relaxation do a in home workout with the things I have available. After my workout, while still sweaty and dirty I clean my entire house. It is a bit obsessive and unnecessary asI cleaned it yesterday, but it is a routine that helps. I then do some online work, do a load of laundry, hang it out to dry, take down the dry items and come in and iron, maybe some more work online. Your routine may look different, but I have found having a standard routine every day helps.
