Soberly it Goes, Weekenders 15 - 18 May 2020
to the Weekenders
How do we get through the weekend, not just sober but holding our sanity with all the changes on earth.
I don’t know how you feel, but if I had been drinking while this pandemic was all around us, I would’ve been a wreck!
Having our sobriety has never been so precious, so vital and so important to keep our sanity and sensibility.
Living Sober gave me freedom of mind, freedom of life. It may not have felt like it when I was first sober but as my sobriety strengthens so does my resolve.
I’ve heard every cloud has a silver lining. I’ve found many silver linings with the heavy codivcloud.
I’ve seen people are appreciating each other more.
I’ve seen nature spreading into our lives.
I’ve seen compassion and caring from my neighbours.
I’ve seen children loving have their parents at home with them, enjoying everyday things.
Drinking would make any uncertainties and fears a hundredfold for me.
Staying Sober this weekend is top of my list, but following that I’m going to look for the silver linings.
If this is your first weekend sober, or many, come join us for support and chat...as we know the weekends can be a struggle sometimes. (We’re here all week too!)

Thank you for the new thread, Mags!
If I may add: how do you get through all this if, above all, it's your Birthday today and you are still on lockdown?
Yes, it's my Birthday. Again it came kind of "out of the blue" - how did I manage to become a year older in no time?
Though I have something to counter it with - quite a pretty number of my sobriety on this day, May 14, 2020 - 7 years and 7 months!
No drama, no comparison to "how it should be", no looking in the past as an ultimate reference point.
Taking the present moment as it is and enjoying its entire imperfection: my morning walk, my coffee, and the global SR family right here, on the site which looks a bit new and unusual. Which is good.
Have a great weekend, friends.
Stay safe!

I am sad that the forum has changed. Its not the same.
People said it wasn't the same when we changed to Carbon.
I remember it before it had the right hand column, a chat room, or the friends' thing.
People said it wasn't the same then too.
I remember when the front page of the site started to have articles.
People said it wasn't the same and that SR was changed forever, clearly for the worse....
Change is inevitable - but what endures here at SR is the community,
Help. Support. Encouragement..Recovery.
That never changes.
I don't know the rationale behind the changes - but in the end I trust the owners of this site have good reasons for instituting change.
I don't know whether the changes are done and dusted now, or whether there will be further refinements and maybe more temporary disruptions.
But lets give the new things a chance.
Who knows? they may become familiar and comfortable too.

Hi Weekenders, I'm in!
Thanks Mags for the thread. 'Soberly Goes' indeed. As you say our resolve strengthens day by day.
Today I've reached Day 500. The sun is shining, my work is going well and coffee is brewing in the kitchen. I'll write some thoughts later about my progress but right now I'm allowing myself a gentle moment of satisfaction.
Happy Birthday MB and best wishes to all. Forwards.

Happy Birthday Midnight, can't believe it has been a year already. At least you won't have to deal with any unwanted scarves this year.
Good going Forwards.

Thank you, guys!
Kaily, actually it was even "better" - I got a ugly scarf for the International women's day and as for the Birthday - no present at all. Good gracious, how I even fathomed tolerating this?
Exactly, Andy!
