Re: Coronavirus (Covid 19) Part 4
Hey Dee
How's it going in sunny Queensland ? All seems fine in Vic so far. I cant figure out our lock down rules. It seems a bit random. How does Bunnings and Officeworks remain open ? Anyway, folks here seem to be coping fairly ok with the isolation. Lucky I guess that the weather is holding out and we can still go outdoors for fresh air otherwise we would have cabin fever issues. Of course, I am aware of domestic violence becoming a major concern. I am lucky I guess in that my only issue is how crowded my running trails have become. Very grateful to be sober well before this virus started.

I expect some loosening of restrictions son and I guess that will be the real test?

Anna & Dee, I feel really grateful that I don't know what you're talking about. :-) I checked the NYC numbers today and even to a quantitative skeptic like myself, it's pretty clear that the incidence of hospitalization and mortality is going down. Daily case counts are on the rise, but that's an artifact of the fact that they're testing a lot of much healthier people and finding antibodies. I can't tell you what a relief this is! I know we won't get back to normal soon, maybe not for a long time -- I know the economic consequences will be dire -- I know that many other places are still to suffer. Nonetheless, it feels a little bit lighter tonight.

In my city, we've kind of hit a plateau this week so, while things aren't yet improving much, they're not getting worse either. I only go out to go for walks multiple times a day. I'm fortunate to be able to find quiet times and quiet places.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid 19) Part 4
The second wave of the Spanish flu in 2018/19 killed approximately fifty million people worldwide. Of that total,~675,000 were Americans. What very few people knew was that the flu claimed three million to five million people in the first wave. It was the scourge of Europe but not here.
Americans were menacingly encouraged to rat out people who were critical of the government or the country; family, friends, co-workers...everybody. And if you were caught not reporting someone you knew who spoke critically of the United States, you were in very big trouble. The secrecy was a big deal, contributing as it did, to the illusion of a unified, resolute, and powerful country.
We always adjust the numbers.

Thanks Dee.
Hey everyone, I realise I have missed parts 1-3 from this thread, so Im a bit out of the loop with all your stories, but I know I could use some extra support right now.
I guess like everyone Im trying to make my way through this new normal, and on the surface am doing pretty well, but my anxiety is bubbling away and coming out in disturbed sleeping patterns and anxiety felt first thing every morning.
The main issue is my husbands job- he works in a local prison where social distancing is impossible and 5 of his colleagues have now tested positive for covid19. He has asthma so Im so anxious about what it would mean for him were he to get it. My nightmares involve him being rushed to hospital and him dying alone without me with him, and then me not being able to bury him.
During the day, as Im still working too, plus studying for a counselling diploma, Im so busy I can push these thoughts from my mind.
But nights really are the pits.

Hi Jeni
I'm sorry - that must be hard. Its especially hard when there's so much we don't have control over.
I can wear masks and gloves - not sure if your husband can - but then I'm not sure about the efficacy of masks and gloves anyway - there's so much conflicting opinion.
All I can do at a base level is wash my hands frequently and try hard not to touch my face, and try hard not to be too close to people for long periods of time,
I've not been sick yet and sounds like neither has your husband. May it remain so for us all

Thanks Dee. Yes theyve got basic gloves and masks, and have full PPE if they have to escort and stay with someone in hospital.
Hes fit and well, we all are at the moment, long may it continue
